Beech Mountain: What’s Happening Up Top

We celebrated our Country’s birth on Beech Mountain this past weekend, like most other communities around us did. We had approximately 1200 people attend the 47th Annual Roasting of the Hog on Saturday, which culminated in dancing to the music by D.J. Mack Mast and enjoying the fireworks which were set off by our local volunteer fire department personel. There was also live music at the Beech Alpen Inn, hot dogs and children’s activities at Buckeye Lake Recreation Center and many people enjoying the shops and restaurants on the mountain.

Our next event will be B.J.’s Dog Show at Buckeye Recreation Center. This event grows every year and there are many categories to enter your dog in for a prize. This year’s event will be held on July 18th. Buckeye Recreation Center is the center of many activities throughout the year and has indoor tennis, basketball, fitness, kitchen facilities, exercise classes, a reception hall and social room with DLS Internet access.  A membership costs only $75/person or $150/family of up to four for one whole year!

After the Dog Show, stop by Town Hall and enjoy Dancin’ in the Streets with D.J. Mack Mast spinning the music. This is a very popular event done a few times during the summer and held in the parking lot in front of the Chamber and Town Hall.

July 25th is the date for our 3rd annual Barn Dance. This year’s event will be held pool side in the Pavilion at the Beech Mountain Club Recreation Center on Lakeledge Road. One price will include dinner and dancing with live music for square dancing, line dancing and more.dscf1090

Crafts on the Green is coming August 1st at the gazebo in the middle of downtown, next to Fred’s General Mercantile. Past years saw many vendors such as caning (for chairs), quillows (a unique blanket that folds up into a pillow), wooden bowls, furniture, pottery, jewelry, pictures, metal art, bird feeders and houses, plants and more. This year’s event should be just as spectacular as last year’s, so be sure to come on up to enjoy the fun.

Also on August 1st, the annual Fireman’s Golf Tournament/Tennis Tournament and Ball will be held to raise funds to assist our fire department’s budget.
