I bought this book several years ago and have purchased a copy many times since for friends of all ages. T is for Tar heel gives information on the interesting sites and history of North Carolina.

The main story is written in rhyme for younger children with more detailed text for older children with each letter of the alphabet represented. North Carolina can be explored with this book from the mountains to the coast. Children will have fun seeing their favorite sights from their own hometown and learning interesting facts about each. Grandfather Mountain and Tweetsie are two of our high country sights to learn about. As an adult I now know our state insect, state vegetable, and state reptile.

At the end of the book are 25 questions to test what you have learned from the information you just read. You and your child will come away from T is for Tar Heel with a little more knowledge about the state you love to live in.

Check out this online teacher’s guide for doing some extra activities with yor kids, base on T is for Tarheel! It includes State Facts, a “where am I” game, a “fill in the story” activity, as well as crafts and recipes..
