I love the fact that my hubs totally trusts me to make the educational decisions. He may ask from curiosity but never from a spirit of criticism or suspicion. He is willing for me to spend as much as we can afford on materials and never questions my purchases. He's always there for a "Bibleology" question (his expertise). I wouldn't feel right to ask my husband to do more of the educating. He has to work to support us. That is enough.

I'm not too keen on the sound machine. Seems best to let baby get used to sleeping in whatever the conditions happen to be. My kids have been great sleepers without it, except for a few harrowing months with Boy 2. LOVE my Moby wrap, and I'd add a sling-style wrap to that at about 5 months old. And I don't think I've even heard of Booby Tubes, but I'll be buying those this time. What a great idea!

Hi Becky,

It seems like everyone I meet in the High Country is popping thyroid pills myself included. I wanted to ask concerning your linked post: Can you tell me who the "high country physician who took this brilliant doctor's seminars" is? We know thyroid is much more complicated than most physicians make it but we haven't found anyone other who doesn't handle it by simply taking a annual T4 blood test and giving you a pill to keep in range. There was some luck for my wife with the Kinesiologist at Calloway Clinic in Blowing Rock.

My husband is supportive but doesn't do anything with the day to day because of his work schedule, as is typical, probably. How we get him involved is that our weekend family outings are done with a "field trip" attitude - what educational place can we go to today (local historic sites or the zoo, for example).

Also, he has down time at work when he can just fiddle around on the internet - I gave him a list of things to find online videos about to supplement our science reading. It's something useful when he has nothing productive to do, and it means I don't have to spend the time on the computer to find the videos myself.

This is a great post. I'm sure my husband would like to be more involved, but it's really "my" thing. Although he supports the decision, and would never want the kids in PS school, he is at work everyday, so his involvement is limited. There are time I don't think he's interested and other times I think he is. I think science experiments are a great way to get dads involved too. Hands on! Ya know? :)
