Fit Academy

A summer day camp for young people ages 5 to 12. Campers will experience daily group exercise, games, nutrition education, cooking lessons, and extraordinary fun! Fit Academy promotes healthier lifestyles for ALL children.

The camp is open to Wellness Center members and non-members, and will operate in one-week sessions from June 17 through August 9. Parents can choose to register their child for the entire 8 weeks of camp, or pick and choose weeks for the summer.

Who: Young people ages 7 to 12, members or non-members

Where: Paul H. Broyhill Wellness Center

When: June 17 – August 9, week-long sessions

Camp Hours: Arrive between 7:30am and 8:00am, pick up at 4:00pm daily

Fee: $120 per week (limited scholarships available)

Activities include: Hiking, gardening, swimming, nutrition classes, cooking classes, daily group games and activities, fitness classes, bowling and so much more.

Western Youth Network Summer Day Camps

TBD depending on when school lets out

Highlights: WYN’s 5-week summer day camp encourages participants to challenge themselves through adventure-based activities in a supportive and supervised environment. While interacting with students from all across the county, WYN summer program participants strengthen leadership skills and social skills. WYN Summer Camp keeps students active, provides them with healthy food, and encourages them to step outside of their comfort zone. Students who are rising 6th – 9th graders are eligible to participate and the program runs for five weeks Monday–Thursday from 8:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Campers can sign up for one week or for all sessions. Transportation will be provided for those who qualify.

Fee: The camp is $125 per week, but WYN also offers payments based on a sliding scale, as well as scholarships. Registration begins April 15.

Watauga Parks and Rec Summer Adventure Camp

When: When: June 17 – August 2, 2019

Where: Watauga High School

Who: rising 1-7 graders, ages 5-13

Highlights: The Watauga County Parks and Recreation Summer Adventure Camp will take place for seven weeks this summer at Watauga High School. Campers can attend one week or as many weeks as they want. Each week has a different theme. The camp includes physical activity, arts and crafts, swimming and a field trip every week.

Fee: The cost is $100 per week.

Blowing Rock Parks and Rec Summer Camp

Where: Blowing Rock

Who: rising kindergarten-rising 6th grader, ages 5-13

Highlights: The Blowing Rock Parks and Recreation Summer Day Camp is open to rising kindergarteners (at least 5 years old with daycare experience) through 6th graders. Camp hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Children swim, hike, play sports, fish and go on field trips. Registration started March 1 for Blowing Rock taxpayers, and open registration starts on March 11.

Fee: $70 per week for taxpayers and $120 per week for non-taxpayers.

Junior Counselors – The Junior Counselor Program is open to anyone rising 7th grade – high school (under 18 years old). The Junior Counselor will be working under direction of the camp counselors, interns, and summer camp coordinator and supervisor.

Appalachian Mountain Leadership (Youth Leadership Institute Overview)

When: Session 1: July 8-12

Age(s): 11-14

Program Elements: Rock Climbing and Rappelling, Backpacking, and Hiking

Location: Drop-Off and Pick-Up at Boone Greenway

Equipment: Participants will need clothes appropriate to each day’s weather- to include a rain jacket (with hood) when necessary. Additionally, each participant will need two 32 oz. water bottles and a backpack suitable for day hikes (with enough capacity to carry two 32 oz. water bottles, rain gear, extra layers, snacks, and lunch).

AML provides all the technical equipment necessary for each day’s programming.

Food: AML provides an energy rich lunch as well as snacks for each day’s programming.

The purpose of AML’s Youth Leadership Institute is to provide a fun and adventurous experience that cultivates age appropriate competencies in middle schoolers’ development.

This weeklong program is packed with a variety of adventures each day and is sure to keep your student learning and growing while having fun outdoors. From hiking and navigating to rock climbing and rappelling, your student is sure to have an unforgettable week of adventure- all the while experiencing personal growth and gaining valuable life skills.

Center 45 Climbing Camp

When: 7 weeks starting in June after school lets out

Where: Center 45

Who: Ages 8-14 (all skill levels welcome)

Highlights: Youth will have an opportunity to explore and expand their climbing at Center 45 Climbing Gym with lessons, instruction, games, group activities, hiking, arts and crafts, and field trips to climb outside. Youth will have an opportunity to explore and expand their climbing in the gym and hang out in a fun and safe space.

Lutherock Summer Camp

When: June and July

Where: Lutherock Camp and Conference Center

Who: 3rd grade through 12th grade

Camp is made for kids! Onsite activities include swimming, crafts, active games, stories, songs, campfires, engaging Bible lessons, creative worship – and more. Fantastic college-age counselors are excellent role models who keep kids safe and help them make friends.


Where: ASU Campus

Who: The general day camp is open to rising 2nd- 9th graders. The older campers (7th -9th) are also eligible to participate in the Counselor-In-Training program & Adventure week.

Located on the ASU campus. Camp UREC explores all aspects of recreation through sports, fitness, outdoors and traditional camp activities. Camp is from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Mountain Pathways Montessori

When: June and July

Where: Mountain Pathways Montessori School

Who: Ages 18 months-15

Pre-Primary Summer – Children 18 months to 3 will extend their rich Montessori education into the summer months. With plenty of time to enjoy nature as well.

Farm Sprouts – Children ages 3-6 years old will now have daily farm-themed lessons/activities led by Farm Camp teachers in addition to special guest Montessori teachers each week. A full list of themes on that group’s page!

Farm Camp – students age 6-12 get 4 weeks of hands on experience on the Farm. Weekly themed lessons and the opportunity to experience sustainability from farm to table.

Farm Community Camp – New for this year we will be offering 4 weeks of our newly designed camp for students ages 12-15. Weekly structure will include volunteer work in the broader community as well as running the school’s Community Supported Agriculture Accounts.

Beech Mountain Day Camp

When: June 17-August 2

Where: Buckeye Recreation Center in Beech Mountain

Who: ages 5-12

There isn’t a better way to spend summer on Beech Mountain if you are a kid than attending our Summer Day Camp. Camp runs from the end of June to the beginning of August for ages 5-12. Make life-long friendships and memories while gaining knowledge of the outdoor world on Beech Mountain. Try different sports, explore trails and creeks, visit State parks, get wet and wild on our slip-n slide and learn there is nothing like having summer fun on Beech Mountain at the Buckeye Recreation Center.

NEW! This year Beech Mountain will be introducing the Jr. Counselor Leadership Program. The J.C.L.P is designed to give teens the skills, encouragement, and tools of becoming leaders of tomorrow. J.C.L.P participants will assist our counselors while taking part in all activities of camp.

Holston Camp

When: June – August

Where: Holston Camp in Banner Elk

Who: ages 6-13 (Day), 8-17 (Residential)

Are you looking for adventure? Then Holston is the place for you this summer!  Camp runs from the 14th of June until the 31st of July for ages 5-13 from 8:30 to 4:30. Our residential camps are Sunday to Friday afternoon for ages 8-17.  Make new friends and memories while growing faith with daily Bible studies and worship. You can choose from zip-lines, paintball, rock-climbing, swimming, rafting, archery, arts & crafts, horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, obstacle courses, sports, Bible study, and more at Holston.
