December Weekend Events: Deck The Halls This Weekend 12/4-6

Christmas DecorAre you getting into the Christmas Holiday spirit yet? It’s time and Christmas is only a few weeks away! Hard to believe isn’t it? A good way to help the Merry mood is to play some favorite Christmas music like Nat King Cole’s “Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire”, or Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas”…awe the memories these Christmas gift boxessongs bring back from childhood. And of course the smells…of Hot Apple Cider, Cinnamon, and Cloves. So get out your decorations, if you haven’t already, put up your Tree, hang some lights, let the kids help too and Deck the Halls this weekend! There’s lots of Holiday Events to take in…Enjoy! 

Green Season cardGreening of the Holidays is an event hosted by Green Mother Goods for the Downtown Boone Art Crawl Friday, Dec. 4th. Holiday Ornaments will be for sale along with Craft making for kids of all ages, plus enjoy a cup of free hot apple ciderGreen Mother Goods ad and logo Take in some great traditional string music from 6:30 – 8 pm by Country Music Hall of Fame members Matt Kinman, a former member and co-founder of Old Crow Medicine Show and Josh Hayes while learning about ways you can make your holidays green!  Terry Miller of Sunburst Gallery will also join us with his original paintings, jewelry, and native crafts ~ “the most unusual and wildest art you’ve ever seen.” For more info call Green Mother Goods at 828-262-3525.

 You won’t want to miss Poplar Grove Baptist Church’s 4th Annual Live Drive-Thru Nativity, “A Family Christmas,” on Friday, Dec. 4, from 6-8 pm; Saturday, Dec. 5, from 6-8 pm; and Sunday, Dec. 6, from 5-6 pm. Live Nativity“The Christmas story will come to life for a little boy as his parents tell him of the first Christmas night, the night our Savior was born,” a spokesperson for the event said. Santa Paws is coming to town and the furry members of your family can have their holiday photo taken. With the help of  The Watauga Humane Society, Santa Paws will visit the Little Red School House in Valle Crucis (behind Mast General Store) on Saturday & Sunday, Dec. 5- 6, SantaPawsfrom1 – 5 pm. A 5×7 photo costs $10, and additional photos are available for $5 each. All types of animals are invited to attend this holiday event with their owners, and dogs must be on a leash. Along with some great entertainment, weaver Cindy Long will be on hand to demonstrate Spinning at her spinning wheel.  Gift items she has woven will be available for purchase, with 10 percent of sales donated to the Watauga Humane Society. The Children’s Council will present Holiday Family Fest on Santa's LapSaturday, Dec. 5, from 9 am – 2 pm at the High Country Press located  behind the Mast General Store in downtown Boone. Santa’s lap will be available for children to have their picture made with Elves waiting to lead the kids to a special area to create gifts for Holiday Family Festtheir family members at a low cost. Parents can also shop for gifts with local vendors while their children are in ‘Elf Land.’ Come enjoy a cup of hot cider, coffee or hot chocolate and a bowl of chili or nachos.” There will also be a silent auction, bakery and much more. All proceeds will go to the Children’s Council to help offset the state budget cuts that have occurred this year. For more information, call 828-262-5424.

Christmas Bazaar signDeerfield United Methodist Church will be hosting  An Old-Fashioned Christmas Bazaar, Open House and “Tree for All” on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 8 am – 3 pm on Deerfield Road, with Tree, Wreath, and Roping sales between 8 am – 6 pm. Family fun for everyone, Christmas Bazaarwith Gifts and Crafts of all kinds, a Gingerbread Man Decoration Station, Miniature Pony wagon rides, The Fawn Shoppe (a place for children to buy gifts for parents), a Bake sale, Doe Boutique and Deer Run Christmas Shoppe, gifts in a jar, and much more” .  This event will really get you and your whole family into the Christmas spirit.  

KidsSpace picsAfter spending the day out having fun shopping and such, why not let the kids wind down with “Movie Night” at KIDsSPACE, Dec 5, 7 pm.Elf movie sign
They will be  showing “Elf” (PG, 2003), starring Will Farrell as an Elf trying to find his “real” family. It is both funny & touching at the same time. KIDsSPACE has bean bags and comfy chairs, but you are welcome to bring your own. This event is Free, but please bring healthy canned food for donation to Hospitality House. Parents are welcome to stay, but drop-offs are ok as well from 6:30 – 9 pm.

What a Fun-Filled weekend packed with Family togetherness from learning to Go Green with the Holidays, to seeing what it was like the night Jesus was born, to Shopping with local vendors and topping it off with a movie.
