Fourth of July Family Events in the High Country {2014}

Can you believe it is almost July? The time is flying by so fast. Fourth of July in the High Country is always so much fun for everyone. Here is a list of family-friendly events in and around the Boone, NC area.

July 4, 2014

Boone 4th of July Activities – This year’s parade will be held on July 4th at 11am. The parade will travel down King Street in Downtown Boone and will conclude at Poplar Grove Extension. Take a spot on King Street to watch the parade go by and then head over to the Jones House for watermelon and cake. A concert will follow at 1:00pm. The evening festivities at Clawson/Burnley Park off of Hunting Hills Lane will start at 7:00 pm with family activities and fireworks beginning around 9:30 pm.

July 4th Party in the Park –  Come Join the Fun! The Annual 4th of July Parade begins at Lees-McRae College and ends at Tate-Evans Park with a Party in the Park and Duck Races to benefit local children! The Parade begins at 11am at Lees-McRae College. After the Parade at Dunn’s Deli, Main Street East- Until its all gone! Smoked Pork and pit cooked beef, hotdogs, burgers and corn on the cob! Come Hungry!

Liberty Parade 2014 – This year’s Liberty Parade is all about SOUND!

The Big Pink Thing will be transformed into a moving sound machine accompanied by a multitude of joyful instruments and “sound suits”.

Paraders are invited to meet in Todd at the corner of 194 N and Railroad Grade Road at 10:30 am to put on costumes, get into giant puppets and choose an instrument. All costumes, puppets, and instruments are provided. Additional instruments are encouraged!

The parade begins at 11 am and lasts about 45 minutes with food available for purchase. This year we will enjoy the Blues Buzz of Todd’s own The King Bees and a few fabulous selections from Boone musician, Kendra Warren. Culminating festivities will take place in the Walter and Annie Cook Park.

Bethel Blast – Celebrate America’s Birthday! Everybody Welcome! Enjoy great music, bar-b-que, fireworks, fellowship and lots of fun. 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm.

Christmas in July in West Jefferson –  Christmas in July will be held July 4th and 5th this year. The festival features the very best in traditional mountain music and 
handmade crafts from throughout the Northwest Mountains
of North Carolina. Nowhere else will you find such an excellent 
array of food, fun and festivities for the entire family than at 
Christmas in July!

Newland Summertime Free Riverwalk Concert Series – Tommy Z Band and Picnic. Fireworks will follow the show. 6:00pm – 9:30pm

Tweetsie Railroad Fireworks – Enjoy the most spectacular fireworks in the High Country on July 4, 2014. Parking is $5 per car. Optional dinner and premium fireworks viewing in the Hacienda with a special buffet chicken and barbeque dinner with all the trimmings. Adults: $14.95 and Children: $9.95 Children 2 and under are free. Buy your wristband tickets at the ticket office.

Blowing Rock Fourth of July Celebration – Blowing Rock will be celebrating with all their activities on July 6th.

9am-until: Adult Horse Shoe Tournament (18 years & up, $75 first place, $50 second place)

9:30am-11am: Park Games (prizes awarded for 1st and 2nd place in all games!)
-Water Balloon Toss
-Watermelon Eating Contest
-More, plus Face Painting

11am-4:30pm: Climbing Tower & Bounce Obstacle Course

10am- 11am: Cloggers

11am-Noon: Patriotic Sing Along

Noon-1:30pm: Live Music

2pm: Independence Day Parade

3-4:30pm: Bluegrass Music

9:30pm: Fireworks at the Blowing Rock Country Club

Christmas in July!

Beech Mountain 47th Annual Pig Roast – The 47th Annual Beech Mountain Hog Roast will take place at the Beech Mountain Resort on July 5th, 2014. The event will be at the Beech Tree this year, which is a change from the usual location of the View Haus. The event will feature chopped pork BBQ and smoked turkey, with potato salad, cole slaw and baked beans, all topped off with a moon pie. 2014 Beech Mountain Pig Roast

There is also a silent auction from 5:30-8:30 PM, with trips, gift certificates, dinners at local restaurants and many other items up for bid. Baked goods will be offered for sale, and there will be children’s activities, including a bounce house and face-painting.

Music will be provided by the High Country Boomers, a local favorite that will be sure to get you up and dancing. The evening will be capped off with a fireworks display.

Advance tickets are $15 for adults (8 and over) and $7.50 for children (under 8). Advanced tickets can be purchased at the Visitor’s Center on Beech Mountain, Fred’s General Mercantile, the Beech Mountain Club or Buckeye Recreation Center, or online through the link below. Tickets will be $20 for adults and $10 for children at the gate, so don’t wait to get your tickets.

If you want to attend the festivities but don’t want to purchase a ticket for the BBQ dinner, you may pay $5 to the parking lot attendants to enter the venue.
