A Great Time Was Had By All, Thanks to Glidewell’s, Stick Boy and Others

Well, we had our first annual High Country Mom Squad Birthday Party last Thursday at Glidewell’s Restaurant in Blowing Rock. It was such a fun night, I didn’t want to have to go home! I’ve known Mary Kelly Glidewell for several years, and she actually went to the same High School as my husband! It’s such a small world.

At the end of Main Street, in Blowing Rock, is Glidewell's restaurant.

I immediately thought of Glidewell’s elegant, yet relaxed atmosphere as a perfect place for us moms to have a night out without the kids. We did, however have a couple of adorable nursing babies with us that were a complete blessing!

The bar at Glidewell's is an upscale, but relaxed atmosphere appropriate for a date, girl's night out, or business meeting.

Glidewell’s provided complimentary appetizers of Sweet Potato Fries, Spinach Artichoke Dip, and Nachos with Queso and Salsa! The sweet Potato Fries were amazing and covered with Bleu Cheese.  My favorite appetizer of all time is Spinach Artichoke dip, and it did NOT disappoint!  And the Queso dip?  Well, let’s just say that it was “gone in 60 seconds.”

We sat by the fire in a private, elegant room.

The most popular entrees were the chicken Penne Pasta, which Rich paired with a Reisling wine for us, and the Huge Crab Cakes! Yum.  All the food we had at Glidewell’s was incredibly tasty and beautifully presented by Chef Will.  He even came out and greeted us.

I will never forget my Birthday Party last year, when my husband threw  a surprise party for me.  Brandon, the Pastry Chef at Stick Boy Bread Co., and wife Kim ,were in our church small group, and made me the most wonderful cake I had ever tasted. (yes, better than my wedding cake)  Anyway, I was honored to have Brandon create our Mom Squad Birthday Cake, which set the bar higher on any other cake I will ever eat!  You could hear the “oohs and ahhs” all across the restaurant, I’m sure.  If you ever need a fabulously beautiful and yummy cake with the most delicate butter cream icing, Brandon is your man!

AWESOME cake by Pastry Chef Brandon Kop, at Stick Boy. Mocha Ganache and Lemon Raspberry!

Each mom who came to the party received a Harris Teeter re-usable grocery bag filled with goodies:

  • A Ray’s Weather 2009 calendar with gorgeous photos by High Country Photographers.
  • A set of Ray’s Weather post cards, including all the photos from the calendar, plus the Best of the Rest
  • A plethora of goodies from Mountain 1st Bank, in Boone, where I do my business banking.  I {heart} Mountain 1st. Little things that make a mom’s life easier! (Did you know you can get a free business checking account there?  I searched all over town for a bank I could afford with my start-up business.  Plus, my kids love the goodies!

If you missed this party, we still have some swag bags with your names on them!  We are going to be at Chick-Fil-A on Friday morning at 10AM to meetup with the High Country Mommies,  The first 12 people to RSVP and come will get in on the swag.

Here are some more pictures from the night:
