The Banner Elk Park is wonderful! We are frequent visitors to Banner Elk because we have a place up on Beech Mountain. When our 4-year-old gets stir crazy during one of our forays off the mountain, we'll often stop at the park in Banner Elk, which has fantastic climbing frames, swings, slides, a walking trail - and a lovely stream right down the middle of the park, which is fantastic for playing in in warm weather. Bring those bathing suits for the kids; they absolutely love it and it's got easy banks and a nice shallow area which is great for the small ones. There are also bathrooms. Dogs are allowed on a leash too.

Park in Mountain City, TN, which is about 25 minutes from Boone has some nice playground equipment, a walking trail, ballfield, etc. Restrooms available. They don't have any cutting-edge playground equipment, but...There is also a pond nearby with duck-watching opportunities!
