The High Country Trike-A-Thon event organized by HighCountryMommies.com on Saturday, August 28th starting at 10:00am, with registration beginning at 9:30am, at the National Guard Armory in Boone, will teach children riding-toy safety while having fun and raising funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, one of the world’s premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases.
The High Country Trike-A-Thon will include two sessions: one for tricycles or bicycle riders using training wheels, and a second session for children on 2-wheel bicycles. All community children under the age of 12 are invited to participate. Just a minimum donation of $5 is required. Forms to register and record donations are available at the Children’s Playhouse and Earthfare in Boone, as well as Mountain Girl Gallery in Banner Elk.
For more information on participating, contact Emma Yarborough by email at emma@highcountrymommies.com. Participants will also be invited to join in the day’s activities, including a bounce-house, face painting, live children’s music, and door prizes.
“St. Jude is the leader in the fight against catastrophic childhood diseases such as leukemia, brain tumors and sickle cell disease,” said Emma Yarborough, coordinator of the event. “Through events like High Country Trike-A-Thon, we can support the St. Jude mission of finding cures and saving children across the country and around the world.”
The High Country community can sponsor children in the Trike-A-Thon by pledging a donation. St. Jude depends on community-based fundraising programs like Trike-A-Thon to continue the hospital’s groundbreaking research and lifesaving care. The daily operating cost for St. Jude is $1.5 million, which is primarily covered by public contributions.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. St. Jude is the first and only pediatric cancer center to be designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute. Founded by late entertainer Danny Thomas and based in Memphis, Tenn., St. Jude freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world. St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance. No child is ever denied treatment because of the family’s inability to pay. St. Jude is financially supported by ALSAC, its fundraising organization. For more information, please visit www.stjude.org.
