After all of this Cold Weather, Snow and Ice Storms, getting out to have some fun seems to be in order! Of course, there are many ways to have fun indoors, and I kind of feel that it is what you make it. However, the outdoors brings refreshment and stirs the senses, making a person want to move and stretch those restless legs and muscles. This weekend has some events to do just that because Why?…Cuz We Just Wanna Have Fun!!!

Our first event is WINTERFEST held at Chetola in Blowing Rock starting Thursday through Sunday, Jan. 28th – 31st. See Amy’s Freebie Friday story this past week for all of the details and more info.

Second, we have a Girls Lees-McRae College’s Cheer Clinic offered by Cheerleading Coach, Dani Usedom. Girls ages 6-13 can attend the 3-Day Clinic for $50 held Jan. 30-31 from 1-4 pm in the Arthur Student Recreation Complex on Lees-McRae’s Banner Elk campus. To highlight the end of the clinic, the “Lil’ Bobcats” will perform Feb. 3 at 7:15 pm during a Lees-McRae Men’s Basketball game. The Girls will be given great prizes, as well as, getting to know the Lees-McRae’s Bobcat Cheerleading Squad. Funds raised by the clinic will go to the Bobcat Cheerleaders. To reserve a spot by Jan. 20th, contact Dani Usedom at 828-898-8858 or usedomdn@lmc.edu. Visit www.lmc.edu for a registration form.

Last we have The Second Annual Winter Paws Dog Show held on Sunday, Jan. 31st, at the Blowing Rock School gymnasium. A “Just For Fun” event, this show has the best variety of competition categories.  Awards will go to catagories such as Longest Hair, Shortest Hair, Best Dressed, Most Mellow, and Owner-Dog Look-alike, with all winners receiving Gift certificates to The Pet Place. Dogs have to be on a leash with proof of current rabies vaccination. Registration is at 2 pm with a $10 entry fee per dog and all proceeds go to the Watauga Humane Society. One lucky person participating will win free dog food for a year, and others taking part can collect free dog food samples and dollars-off coupons. Non-participants are invited to attend as viewers. Visit www.BlowingRockWinterFest.com or phone 1-877-205-7801 or 1-888-245-7923 for more information.

Enjoy yourself this weekend, be careful, and Just Have Fun!
