Yay! School is out and Summer is here! Let the jubilant festivities begin! It’s time to have fun and enjoy ourselves, from a variety of summer camps to
hanging out at the local swimming pool, there is lots of fun to be had by all. Weekends are no exception! Here aresome great, fun things to do this weekend.
The 87th annual Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show is this Thursday through Sunday, June 10th – 13th, at the historic L.M. Tate Horse Show Grounds of the Blowing Rock Equestrian Preserve. Touted as “one of
the oldest horse show events in the country”, this show will feature Saddlebreds, with a Hunter and Jumper show taking place later in the summer. Spectators are welcome and gates open at 8 am with show admission $5. Make a day of it and pack a picnic lunch to enjoy under a shade tree, or take advantage of the food vendor booths. Look for the Vision Van, hosted by the Boone Area Lions Club, this Friday, June 11th, from 10 am – 4 pm, where High Country residents can come and have their eyes examined for free! Held in the K-Mart parking lot, the Vision Van provides free vision
screenings. Although these are not full eye examinations, if eye problems are discovered, individuals will be referred to an eye care professional of their choice. It’s the 8th annual Emergency Fest this Saturday, June 12th, from 10 am – 4 pm, sponsored by The
Watauga County Firefighters Association in the Raley Hall parking lot at ASU. There will be Firefighters, Bomb Squads, Paramedics, Police Officers, Rescue Teams and the Red Cross to teach the public about fire and emergency safety. Bring the kids and come on out to this free event, open to the public, with Face painting and Clowns!
Come on out to the Lincoln-Reagan Family Day, hosted by the Watauga County Republican Party, this Saturday, June 12th, from 3 – 6:30 pm at the National Guard
Armory in Boone. Rain or shine, there will be BBQ, hot dogs, sides, beverages, games for kids, a putting green, an airwalk, bluegrass music, beach music and shag lessons and the best part, admission is free! Food and airwalk rides will be available for purchase. This will also be a time to Meet and Greet the Candidates coming up for election.
