Got a crafty kid? Or a budding entrepreneur who’d like to branch out from the ho-hum lemonade stand? Kids are invited sell their work in the Kids’ Craft Market at the Playhouse Family Music Festival, held from
10-5:30, Saturday August 16th at the Historic Cove Creek School in Sugar Grove.
Kids are advised to bring their artwork, a blanket, a sign and/or price tags and a change purse. “This is a great way for a kid to display their handiwork and even earn some money,” explains Playhouse Executive
Director Kathy Parham. “Kids can sell for the whole time or just for a few minutes. It’s up to them. This is their space at the festival.” All items must be kid-made and priced under $5.
Jaxon and Lucas Wiley made sold beaded bracelets last year and made $20—“Enough to keep them in Sno-Cones,” their mother Kelly Wiley said.
Billed “the most family friendly festival of the summer,” The Playhouse Family Music Festival will feature nationally-acclaimed family performers Billy Jonas, Secret Agent 23 Skidoo, as well as local
favorites Lost Ridge, the Forget-Me-Nots, the Elkland Art Center puppet troupe, the BDBs from Todd, plus clogging, airwalks, kids’ activities and more. All proceeds from the event benefit The Children’s Playhouse,
a nonprofit children’s museum in Boone.
Food and adult-made crafts will also be on sale at the festival. Vendors are still accepted—contact The Playhouse. Gordon Hensley, the make-up designer for Tweetsie’s Ghost Train will be doing face painting. “Hair Art” and henna tattoos will also be offered.
“Operation Ramona,” a family effort of Craig, Nate and Mercer Fischer will be selling kids’ books and comics at rock bottom prices to benefit The Playhouse.
