Review-a-Palooza #2: Stick Boy Bread Company

Have you ever been to Stick Boy Bread Company, right across from ASU in Boone?  Stick boy is Boone’s only true artisan bakery, but they offer much more than just bread! I have known the local owners Carson and Mindy Coatney for several years, aHigh Country Mom Squad: Family Friendly Fun Near Boone, NC › Edit — WordPressnd I really couldn’t express the “gist” of the place any better than their own words.

We are a small, family-owned artisan bakery where high quality baked goods and great service come together to create a special experience for you, our customer.  We offer everything from fresh baked breads, steaming cappuccinos, delicious cinnamon rolls, and decadent chocolate tortes. The best part is that everything is made right here in our bakery using the best ingredients and methods. Nothing that we serve is shipped in frozen from thousands of miles away like in most “supermarket” bakeries.   Nothing is taken out of a box, put in the oven for 10 minutes, and then labeled “fresh baked”. This is the real thing. We promise – and we promise that you will be able to taste the difference.

If you need a delicious loaf of bread for a holiday dinner, a fine dessert, or just a slice of focacchia for lunch, you can’t go wrong with Stick Boy.  They have standard as well as seasonal favorites.  Here are some highlights:

  • Pumpkin Pie the weeks of Thanksgiving and Christmas. I had some of this at a friend’s house over Thanksgiving, and it was awesome!  (My Pumpkin Maple is a close second)
  • Egg Nog Cheesecake: If you have never tasted one of Brandon’s cheesecakes, you are sorely missing out! His cheesecakes are to die for!
  • Gingerbread Cookies: Somehow I can never really get them perfect at home.  The Coatneys donate baked goods to our church on Sunday mornings, and the cookies fly of the counter!

TEACHER GIFT ALERT!  Stick boy has gift baskets already assembled, or you can purchase a gift certificate so your child’s teacher can go in and choose his/her favorite!  (Hint hint: are any of my husband’s students reading?) Go and get the coupon for $2 off a @10 gift certificate at the bottom of the current newsletter!

I dare you to go in and smell the place, and see if you can resist it!  Mwah ha ha!

Review-a-Palooza is basically a bunch of reviews that I’m posting this week for local hot-spots.  Remember, I choose to review great area offerings for families and moms, and you can be sure I’ll always be honest!
