Snow Days in the High Country

There have been a lot of snow days already this year!  I can’t remember the last time we had so many before January, can you?  It looks like we are going to have to get creative when it comes to snow day activities in 2009!

Some of our favorite “Snow Day” activities are Chick-Fil-A and the Swim Complex (now if they would just put a retractable roof on that thing!) Then, of course, there is The Children’s Playhouse!

Our newest sponsor, Paint Your Wings offers 15% OFF your entire purchase on School Snow Days!

And be sure to check for closings in your county!

Here’s a short video of me and Little Pea at Chick-Fil-A right after school got out in December.  Post a comment and tell what you like to do on Snow Days!

Melanie asked in the comments about Ski Snow Day Rates.  here is the information from Appalachian Ski Mountain:

Appalachian Ski Mtn. offers special Snow Day rates to students, teachers and staff of all public and private preschools, elementary schools, and high schools when schools are canceled due to snow or inclement weather.  Snow Day rates apply to schools in Watauga County and the following adjacent counties:  Ashe Co., Avery Co., Caldwell Co., Johnson Co. TN and Wilkes Co.

Ski Ticket Rates Day or Half Day Session
Ski Equipment Rental Day or Half Day Session
Ice Skating Each Session

If school is rescheduled for Saturday attendance, and canceled due to snow, Snow Day rates do not apply. Snow Day rates apply exclusively to the ski sessions between 9am-4pm. Snow Day rates are never applicable at night.

Students should present a report card or other school ID from one of the listed counties. Teachers and Staff should present a pay stub or other employment identification. Home-school students may present a home-school authorization letter from the NC Department of Non-Public Education along with a parent’s driver’s license confirming the specific county residency. Home-school teachers do not qualify for Snow Day rates.

  1. For us, it’s a perfect excuse to stay in pajamas all day and just hang out- I don’t get to do crafts with my older kids that often so we will try a new craft, find a new recipe and, if the snow is sufficient, make SNOW CREAM!!! I know there are several versions of the recipe, but my kid-friendly, fool-proof one is (1) snow and (2) eagle-brand sweetened condensed milk. Pour the milk in a bowl and add snow until it’s the consistency you like!

  2. Don’t some of the ski mtns do a snow day price?? I have never been myself, but I thought that I’ve heard of App Ski having a snow day price. Is this true??
