A couple of weeks ago, we gave away a Dinner for Two at the River House Inn restaurant, and it was wildly popular! Well, the River House Inn is back again, with two tickets for their 7th annual River House WineFest! The package is worth $110!!
If you have never been to the River House Inn, it is delightful in every way! Jen Spink, from www.onmomsworld.com and I went out for a Sunday Salon, including live music, great food, and very friendly people! I can imagine the Winefest is going to multiply that quality by at least ten times! I posted the video in the featured video spot, but if you haven’t seen it, here it is in a larger form:
Saturday, July 18, 2009 12 Noon – 5:00 P.M. The 7th Annual River House Winefest admission is $55 per person, and includes a River House Winefest wine glass, tastings from all the Wineries, and, of course, River House food.
In 2009, the participating wineries are: Biltmore Estate, RayLen, Brushy Mountain, Hanover Park, Grassy Creek, McRitchie Winery and Ciderworks, Rag Apple Lassie, Round Peak, and Benny Parsons Rendezvous Ridge.
Musicians are Tim and Debbie Yates of Acoustic Heritage (bluegrass), Martha Bassett Band (sultry southern swing), The Ardmores (soft rock), and Blues Legends Jim Carson and Neill Clegg (jazz).
Artists and artisans include: Wood Crafts by Walnut Hill, Goat Cheese by Daddy’s Girl Dairy, clay Vessels and Jewelry by Sharon Winner, Glass-blowing by Shannon Boyd, Glass Impressions by Sleepin” Dog, JLK Jewelry.
The River House Winefest on the New has teamed up with the National Committee for the New River, which will be present at the event. For more information about the NCNR visit www.ncnr.org or send an email to info@ncnr.org. The Ashe County Chamber and the Humane Society will also be here.
Now, if you are thinking, “I don’t know anything about wine!” then the winefest is the perfect place to learn, taste test, and meet representatives from local Vineyards!
And, if you are thinking, “I am a total wine connoisseur, and I love it all!” then the WineFest is also for YOU!

Castle Rock Pinot Noir is a really nice, consistent red. Smooth, nice body and flavor, reasonable price (around $11), but it tastes like it’s more expensive — and it’s not hard to find.
I’m also a FB fan.
Currently my favorite wine is “Our Daily Red”, and its sulfite free!! A great basic wine I think
Plus, its only $8 a bottle!
Subscriber too!
I used to like wine that tasted like Kool-Aid the best (Riesling, for example), but now I like bolder red wines like Zinfandel and Syrah. Still don’t know a lot about wine…

Favorite Wines are Governors White by the Williamsburg Winery. (local VA wine). Charlie’s Chardonnay because my dog’s name is Charlie, it is not expensive, and some proceeds go to Guide Dogs for the Blind.
I love all wine, but reds are my favorite. Yellow Tail Chardonnay is a favorite white just because it reminds me of my mom (her favorite =).
