Many of us have been through the experience of hosting a yard sale. The clearing out, the pricing, the haggling, the waking up at 4 am to drag all your stuff outdoors. After our first and only yard sale, I just decided to donate the things we didn’t need, but sadly, the bag sat in the garage for I don’t know how long! And many of us wish there were a better option.
Welcome Richard Tidyman, teacher in Watauga County and High Country dad, to introduce a new project he’s launching. Hopefully, it will help us connect with each other in the High Country when we want to “Buy, Sell, or Trade.”
High Country Parent contributors share our experiences and advice, what works for us. We make no guarantees that you will have the same experience or results, and are not always experts. Please consult a professional before making any lifestyle changes- health, dietary, financial, or otherwise. Click here to see our full disclaimer. How would you like a way to save a buck, minimize waste at the landfill, and a chance to sell worthwhile items to local folks– and never leave your home to do it? Believe it! No yard sale. No donating to a thrift store, and no dragging it to the landfill. Enter the latest local Yahoo Group: WataugaBuySellTrade. You can sell your stuff or even request something you are willing to buy. This group is just in its infancy but it is growing, and will continue to do so with your help.
WataugaBuySellTrade is a marketplace for those who want to get rid of something , but
know they need to recoup at least some of your investment. The beauty of this new online tool is that
- it’s free
- you can post your ad whenever you feel like it no matter what time of day or night
- you won’t get spammed like you do on Craigslist
- just like Freecycle, your ad only goes to the people on the list, which at the moment has only 117 members but it will grow.
- Offers are monitored for appropriateness by three different folks, making sure your ad hits the internet in a timely manner.
If you are concerned you will be inundated with emails, relax. The traffic is not that great yet, and even still you can set your membership status so you only get daily list of everything posted for sale that day.
In conclusion, if you have something that you would normally want to put in a yard sale, or something even bigger, or an announcement about an upcoming sale, post it.
