Okay, so I have to agree with Sarah’s glowing review of Hannah Hontana:  the Movie.  I laughed, I cried, I pretended I was there just because my kids wanted to see it – by the time it was over, I was talking teenage girls in the bathroom into taking their little sisters (this is not a fabrication – seriously, it happened).  So that’s my Hannah soapbox.  Go see it.

One event I am very excited about this weekend is the Birth Circle Doula Benefit Event at Dragonfly Theater on Sunday, April 19, featuring the Bluegrass band Wiseapple, and family friendly fun, performance art, and dancing!  $5 for adults and $2 for kids gets you in from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm.

Also this weekend, at the Hayes Performing Arts Center in Blowing Rock, John McEuen of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band fame showcases his unique skills on several string instruments, including banjo, fiddle, guitar, and mandolin.  One night only – Friday, April 17th at 7:30 pm.  $20/$14 www.hayescenter.org

The Hayes Center will also be hosting Fire on the Rock Chef’s Challenge, a part of the Blue Ridge Food and Wine Festival (www.blueridgewinefestival.com), going on all weekend in Blowing Rock.  The Fire on the Rock puts some of the area’s best chefs head to head in a cook-off – “Iron Chef” style. There are several different “heats” that you can attend, and ticket prices run from $5 to $10, depending on how much of the competition you would like to watch.  Want to go?  More information at www.hayescenter.org!

EarthFare is hosting a Barbecue on Saturday, April 18 from 4:00-7:00pm.  Cost per plate is $5…. Live blues music – FREE!!!
