SO, who’s coming out to see us in the fashion show on Saturday? Honestly, I haven’t told many of my “non-computer” contacts that I will be there… I’m thrilled to participate for a good cause, but my 30s have not been terribly kind to my girlish figure, if you know what I mean!  But seriously… we are so lucky to be representing Mast General Store!  The first outfit that Ellen had picked out for me fit just right (this is rare – ask my poor husband, who has to entertain the kids while I try on clothes) and is super cute, as well as functional.  Come out and see us strut our “real lady” stuff on Saturday, for the Boone Service League Fashion show and Silent Auction.  It’s all happening at the beautiful Inn at Crestwood on Shull’s Mill Road.  See you there!

And while I am strutting the afore-mentioned abundance of “stuff”, my kids will be showing off different outfits altogether!  All I have heard about this week is the rumor mill that hit school about the happenings at Chick-fil-A this weekend! Apparently, there is a Princess and Superhero Party going on from 5:00-8:00 PM, and it is the hot ticket for the weekend in the High Country.  Saturday, send the kids with Dad (our REAL superhero…. awww) to the dress-up party while you come out to support the Boone Service League!  And if you don’t show, we won’t tell…. You really deserve some quiet time or a solo pedicure (or even trip to the grocery store) too!!

Also this weekend: The Annual Blowing Rock Trout Derby!!! We went a few years ago, armed with Barbie Zebcos, and caught nothing, but the kids had such a good time; not only fishing, but with the indoor activities… Wish I could be in so many places at one time…. May just have to find a way to get there early in the morning.  www.BlowingRock.com

It’s not too late for some fun tonight:

poprocks

If you haven’t had your fill of Egg hunts…

The Jones House and Watauga County Library’s Easter Egg-Stravaganza will take place on Saturday, April 4, at 1:00 p.m. Storytelling, arts and crafts will entertain the children until the Easter Parade down to the Easter Egg Hunt. Golden eggs mean a prize from a local sponsor! In case of bad weather, there will be a surprise Easter Egg Pull at the Watauga County Library from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. For more info, call 828-262-4532.

MORE HUNTS TO COME!!! IF YOU CAN”T MAKE THIS ONE, DON’T DESPAIR!  I CAN HELP YOU FIND PLENTY OF USE FOR THAT CUTE EASTER BASKET!

planetarium

One more little family fun idea…. Catawba Science Center.  I know it’s a drive, but folks, it is totally worth it.  Down in Hickory in the SaltBlock, adjacent to the campus of Lenoir-Rhyne College, is an amazing little science center!  We went last weekend and caught the temporary exhibit “Swamp Things” – complete with really freaky Burmese Python, American Alligator, and more; saw the shark feeding (my young, brave child even pet a sting ray while this was going on in the touch tank); and saw a wonderful educational show at the Planetarium called Molecularium: I’m telling you, I think I may have learned something new from those singing and dancing atoms!!! Check it out, guys… I won’t bore you with any more details of our experience so that you can be as pleasantly surprised as we were (I’m pretty sure Daddy and I had as much fun as the kids).  www.catawbascience.org You can also join their Facebook group for event updates – http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2262901012&ref=ts

What are YOU doing this weekend?

  1. This Saturday my family will be at the Laurel Springs Baptist Church Egg Hunt in Deep Gap at 2 p.m. Our boys came home from their hunt last year with over 30 eggs each as well as extra gifts.

  2. I’m going to the Boone Art Crawl tonight! I am so excited to peruse art, have some wine, and talk with adults!

  3. Sarah, Thanks for adding the time on the Chickfila thing! I thought it was during the day… oops!
