weekend events 6/5 – 6/7

As the last day of school approaches, and we get geared up for summer, weekends can still be ther best time for fun family activities!

This Friday, June 5th, local band Upright & Breathin’ will get everyone at the Valle Crucis Park to get up and dance from 7:00pm to 10:00pm for the free Music in the Valle series event.  I hear this is quite a good time… if the weather is right, I’ll definitely be checking this one out.

The Jones House Concert on the Lawn this week features The Lazybirds & Crys Matthew. 5:00 pm, FREE

thomas-tweetsieAlso starting Friday, June 5th (and running through June 14th), Day Out with Thomas brings everyone’s favorite tank engine and his friends to the High Country.  Insider tip – if you don’t have passes, go to www.Tweetsie.com to pick a train ride time and book it in advance.  If you do have season passes, it is still wise to book your seats on Thomas ahead of time.  We always take one of the earliest trains so we don’t have to stand to wait for the best seat in the mid-day heat.

Friday, June 5th at Price Park Amphitheater…..

“This Glittering Peace: The Camp Catawba Story” Camp Catawba for Boys, unknown to many visitors and residents of Blowing Rock, was once a place of summer refuge and adventure. Join a ranger to discover the history of this unique summer camp on the Parkway… a history that tells the story of a Nazi Holocaust survivor who found peace in the mountains and went to share that peace with others.  www.BlowingRock.com for more details.

Saturday, June 6th at 2:00 pm - Shriner’s Parade in downtown Blowing Rock… does it get more Norman Rockwell than a Blowing Rock parade? I think not.

Saturday, June 6th – another free ranger program at the Price Park Amphitheater….

“Flora, Feathers, and Fur: The Three Amigos” Nothing much ever happens at a pond… or does it? Join a ranger to learn about some of the wonderful relationships between the plants and wildlife that call a pond home in this 45 minute program. www.BlowingRock.com – Just because school is out doesn’t mean we can’t keep stimulating little minds (and our own minds!)…

Saturday, June 6th at 8:00 pm – Mountainhome Music at the Blowing Rock School Auditorium – Amantha Mill and the Forget-me-nots

Topless Car Wash and Bake Sale Saturday…
RBC Bank at Boone Mall will sponsor a topless car wash and bake sale on Saturday, June 6, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The car wash costs $10. Additional donation accepted to wash top of vehicle. I have to tell you, this one caught my attention!  All proceeds go to Relay for Life. For more info, call Kelli McIlnay at 828-262-4800.

Also Saturday, 7:00 am – 2:00 pm “Rockin Bargains” yard sale at Rumple Memorial Church in Blowing Rock.

Don’t forget the basic fun weekend activities like the farmer’s markets and the local creeks for some family frolicking if the weather is right!

What are you doing this weekend?
