weekend events… the fabulous 4th!

Fourth of July weekend is always perfect in the High Country.  Tourist alert, though.  It’s so much cooler up here that everyone will be popping up the mountain to enjoy our weather!

The entertainment starts in Blowing Rock on Friday, July 3rd, when street performers will be out and about from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  I’m hearing that there will be music, magic, and plenty of other things to keep the whole family occupied.

The Blowing Rock Independence Day Parade begins Saturday, July 4th at 2:00 pm.  I’d recommend getting a spot no later than 1:15 if you want to have a great view.  Be sure to wave at my little girl when she dances by with the High Country Dance Studio!

If you’re in Boone, the Fourth of July parade on King Street begins at 3:00pm.  Banner Elk’s parade begins at 11:00 am at the Lees McRae Library, and Newland’s Riverwalk Park will have a full day Celebration and parade, beginnning at 10:00 am and lasting til 5:00 pm.  Todd’s Liberty Parade and Circus begins at 11:00 am.  www.ToddNC.org Banner Elk will also host a Duck Race from 12:00 – 2:00.  $5 per ticket.

Buckeye Lake Recreation Center on Beech Mountain is hosting a free Family Day from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 4th.

Ashe County folks can enjoy the Christmas in July festival from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm with entertainment, craftsmen, and tons of food! (Admission is free)

fireworks

Looking for a fabulous fireworks display?  No worries… the High Country has you covered!

47th annual Roasting of the Hog & Fireworks, Ski Beech Resort, Beech Mountain, 5:00 to 10:00 p.m., $12.oo for adults, $6 for children, 828-387-9283

Boone Fireworks display will be at the National Guard Armory, with a DJ beginning at 6:00 and fireworks at 9:00 pm.

Ashe County Park in Jefferson will have a fireworks display beginning at sunset. 336.846.9550

Blowing Rock fireworks are put on by the Blowing Rock Country Club, and if you can find a spot to park, the kids can run around on the golf course and play until they start at 9:30 pm.  Be sure to check with local businesses before you use their parking.  Generally, this involves a bit of a walk, but the fireworks are spectacular.

Tweetsie Railroad’s amazing fireworks show begins at 9:00 and parking is $5.  If you have Tweetsie passes, you can hang out there some during the day and park one car in the lot without paying, then have someone drop you off at your  car in time for the show!

Newland’s fireworks are in the Lowe’s parking lot beginning at 9:45.

Have  a safe and happy Fourth of July!  And please remember to supervise your children if you are bringing fireworks home.  I read the other day that sparklers make up a large percentage of the perpetrators for fireworks injuries in small kids.  Teach the kids about the hazards of fireworks before you set them loose!

What are you doing this weekend?

Amy.
