Happy 4th of July! Here is a list of the Celebrations and Activities happening all around the High Country of North Carolina!

First take in some Fun Parades around town~

On Saturday…

Blowing Rock will have lots of FUN activities going on all weekend starting off on Saturday morning so check out their schedule. Then take in the Parade on Saturday afternoon, July 2nd, at 2 pm down Main Street. For more info call 828-295-5222.

On Monday…


Watch the Independence Day Parade, sponsored by The Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce,  Monday, July 4th, at 11 am. The parade starts at Lees-McRae College library and ends at Tate-Evans Park. For more info call 828-898-8195 or 828-898-8395.


Head on down to The Downtown Boone Parade starting at 11 am on Monday, July 4th. The parade route is from Horn in the West Drive down West King Street to Poplar Grove. For more info call 828-268-6200.

Look for The Town of Newland’s July 4th Parade, this Monday, July 4th at 11 am. Staging for the downtown parade begins at 10:15 a.m. in front of the courthouse. Any decorated floats, antique cars and trucks and walking groups are welcome to join. For more info call 828-260-3205.

Not just a Parade, but a Celebration as The Elkland Art Center presents the Liberty Parade on Monday, July 4th, in Todd starting at 11 am. Those participating will meet at N.C. 194 and Todd Railroad Grade Road at 10 am. After the parade, get ready because the Festivities will include Live Music, Food and a Skit at the Walter and Annie Cook Park. For more info call 828-719-6127.

Then take part in some Fun Family-Friendly Activities ~

On Saturday…

Celebrate those who have fought for our freedoms with Earth Fare’s Founding Fathers Bash this Saturday, July 2nd, from 11:30 am – 3 pm. $1 buys a Burger, and members of the U.S. Military, Police or Fire Departments in uniform or with a valid ID will receive a free Burger, Side and Drink. Vegetarian options are available. Enjoy Live Music, Great Food and Prizes. For more info call 828-268-8138.

Support the Hickory Ridge Living History Museum at the Horn in the West as they have their annual Burning of King George this Saturday, July 2nd at 6 pm. Admission to the nonprofit museum costs $3. For more info on this historical event, call 828-264-2120.

Don’t miss the 47th annual Roasting of the Hog and Fireworks Celebration in Beech Mountain this Saturday, July 2nd starting at 6 pm with Fireworks after dark. Lots of fun to be had up on the mountain with tickets costing just $15 for adults and $7 for kids under 7 yrs. of age. For more info call 828-387-9283 or 808-468-5506.

Bring the kids and family out to Seven Devils 7th annual  Safety Fest, this Saturday July 2nd to the Town Hall. Town happenings include a BBQ Dinner, Raffle, Craft Show and Silent Auction. The Craft Show is from 10 am – 3 pm, and food will be served from 11 am – 3 pm. Raffle winners announced every hour. For more info call 828-963-5343.

On Sunday…

Come on out to Blowing Rock for Mountain Home Music and Chetola Resort’s special outdoor concert,  Bluegrass and Brass, Bagpipes and Burgers, this Sunday, July 3rd. Featuring The Mountain Home Bluegrass Boys and the Mountain Home Brass Ensemble, the gates will open at 4 pm, and seating is limited, so bring lawn chairs or blankets. A vegetarian option is available, and advance tickets for adults cost $26, for students $21, and for children under 6 just $11. Show your community colors by helping Dunn’s Deli in Banner Elk celebrate our country’s 235th birthday and the centennial of our county and town this Sunday, July 3rd and Monday, July 4th. Sunday will start off at 9 am with lots of good Food, followed by Beer Tastings at 2:30 pm, and The Whip Daddies will perform on the lawn at 3:30 pm. Then come back on Monday, July 4th, for more of Dunn’s Deli’s annual Pig Pickin’ beginning after the parade, with a variety of games and contests being played throughout the day. On Monday…

Watch the beautiful scenery with the Watauga Lake 4th of July Boat Parade, this Monday, July 4th, which starts at the Watauga Dam in Tennessee at 2 pm and ends at the Butler Bridge. At 9 pm, Fireworks will begin at the Lakeshore Marina. For more info call 423-768-2336.

Check out the cool cars in Newland’s 4th of July Car Show, this Monday, July 4th at the Avery Senior Center parking lot from 9 am until 3 pm. For more info call 828-260-3205.

Contribute to the community as Bella’s Restaurant in Banner Elk hosts a July 4th Fundraiser to help benefit the Avery County Habitat for Humanity starting at 7:30 pm. The dinner cost is $10 and includes Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad and Live Music. For more info call 828-733-1909.

Be a part of the Town of Boone’s Freedom Celebration, this Monday, July 4th, in between the parade and the fireworks, enjoy free Entertainment and free Watermelon at the Jones House lawn. Then at 7 pm, DJ Carl will spin some tunes at Clawson/Burnley Park off Hunting Hills Lane before the fireworks. For more info call 828-268-6200.

And make sure to remember about the Independence Day picnic by the Lake. Hosted by the Buckeye Recreation Center in Beech Mountain, the Picnic starts at 12 noon. For more info call 828-387-3003.

In Boone, Fireworks begin at 9:30 pm on Monday, July 4th, at the Clawson/Burnley Park of Hunting Hills. For more info call 828-268-6200.

At Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock, they will celebrate the 4th of July with a Fireworks Extravaganza. Park hours are from 9 am – 9 pm, and everyone can enjoy the Fireworks after the park closes, with parking just $5. Daily admission is $34 for adults and $22 for children. In Blowing Rock at the Westglow Resort and Spa, start off with a wonderful Dinner and Show with a Grand Fireworks display. For more info or to schedule a reservation, call 828-295-5146.
