An Appalachian Summer Festival Events for Kids and Families

MS7H5547Looking for fun things for the whole family to do together this summer?  An Appalachian Summer Festival offers dozens of opportunities to get out and enjoy some time with the kids. Here’s a sampling of some of the wonderful events and activities going on this July:

Performances:

African Children’s Choir, July 2, 8pm at Farthing Auditorium

Eastern Festival Orchestra with Susan Graham, mezzo-soprano, July 3, 8 pm at Farthing Auditorium

Eastern Festival Orchestra with Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, violin, July 10, 8 pm at Farthing Auditorium

Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, July 14, 8 pm Farthing Auditorium

Movies on the Lawn: Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival, July 16 at the Duck Pond Field.  Bring snacks and lawn chairs and enjoy the free event!

Film: Mad Hot Ballroom, July 22, 8pm at Farthing Auditorium- “Documentary about elementary school kids who are training for a ballroom dancing competition in NYC. The film interviews the kids and follows them from auditions to the competition and is really cute and funny!”

Outdoor Fireworks Concert with Dierks Bentley, July 23, 7:30 at Kidd Brewer Stadium. Pack a picnic and bring the whole family for a country music concert and fireworks!

Family Day at the Turchin Center, July 16, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. offers music, crafts, balloon animals and more. This is a free event!

Kids Workshops:

Be a Super Hero/Shero & Discover the Artist Within, July 11-15 from 10am-3pm for ages 7-12. Bring your super hero/shero to life while also exploring your creativity through various mediums such as oil pastels, watercolors and collage.

From Trash to Puppets, July 18-22 from  10am-3pm fro ages 6-12. Make puppets from regular household items!

There are also workshops available for teens and adults. Check the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts website for information.
