Appalachian State Homecoming Parade and APPtoberfest – October 7!

It’s a big weekend in the High Country. Between Appalachian State Homecoming, Fall Festivals, and Corn Mazes, families will not be bored this weekend!

The 2017 Appalachian State University Homecoming Parade will take place on Friday, October 6, at 6:00 p.m. The parade will travel through the campus of Appalachian and along King Street in downtown Boone.

Visitors to downtown will be able to park in any of the Town of Boone public parking lots, or on King Street.  AFTER 5:00 p.m., guests may also park in the Human Services Center parking lot, which is just a short walk to the parade route, and downtown amenities. For optimal parking and parade viewing sights, please arrive in downtown no later than 5:15 p.m.

Streets will close just prior to the parade step off at 6:00 p.m., all traffic lanes through downtown will remain open until that time. For a short period during the parade, traffic coming into town from the west will be rerouted via the Poplar Grove Connector. Access to downtown parking on Queen and Depot streets will be reopened at the Waters Street intersection as soon as the parade has safely cleared the intersection.

After the parade, a new Homecoming tradition is born! Head over to Howard Street in Downtown Boone to relax at APPtoberfest and the Homecoming Street Party as you enjoy catching up with old friends and making new ones. The event begins at 7:00 p.m. and concludes at 9:30 p.m.

Event Cost: $3.00 admission (ages 7 and over); beer sales $3.00 each – cash only – ages 21 and up with valid ID

Pre-paid admission of $3.00 to the Alumni Beer Garden will receive an official Homecoming commemorative cup and sticker. Walk-ups will be charged $5.00 at the gate for entrance to the Alumni Beer Garden. Complimentary non-alcoholic beverages and snacks available inside the Alumni Beer Garden.

Then don’t miss this Homecoming tradition as alumni, students, faculty, staff, and community members come together under the stars for a bonfire and fireworks show.  The event will take place on Duck Pond Field at 10 p.m. where the fireworks will be visible atop the mountain behind the football stadium.  DJ music will keep the energy alive, and FREE hot cider and hot chocolate will be provided.
