August Weekend Events: It’s That Time Again…School Days Are Upon Us! 08/06-08

Can you believe that It’s that time again!!! Already, school days are upon us and my how time flies! It has been a short summer season, but the fun and activities aren’t over yet. There are still lots of summer events happening from getting some exercise to help out others, enjoying fine craftsmanship, learning about our local farmers, and getting your feet stompin’ to some great live music!

I don’t know about you, but it’s looking like a great weekend ahead! C’mon down y’all!

Put your running shoes on for the 5K Fun Run/Walk Benefit sponsored by the Boone Community Care at Brookshire Park this Sat.  Aug. 7th, rain or shine. Registration begins at 7:30 am, and the Fun Run starts at 8:30 am, with the family walk at 9 am. There is a Suggested Donation of $5 for individuals, $10 for families and $20 for a shirt. Proceeds benefit the clinic’s services to its low-income, uninsured patients. For more info call 828-265-8591.

Come on out to Beech Mnt’s 29th annual Crafts on the Green, Sat. Aug. 7th, from 9 am – 4 pm, the highlight of the mountain’s summer events! About 70 craftspeople will have a variety of items ranging from fine jewelry, wood turnings, photography, paintings, bird houses, metal works, pottery, clothing and much more, from country to contemporary. Crafts on the Green also features my friend and musician Diana and her band, Sarvis Ridge, performing along with magician Rick Ramseur. For more info call 828-387-4838.

Say “Howdy” to the High Country Farm Tour this Sat. & Sun. Aug. 7th – 8th from 2 – 6 pm, offering a child and family friendly way to tour various farms, meet the farmers, see how they grow and make a stronger connection between grower and consumer. Sponsored by the Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture.  The cost is $20 for a carload of people and covers both days. Folks can plan their own route and visit as many farms on our tour in three counties as they would like. Advance tickets are $20 and can be purchased at Bare Essentials Natural Market, Mast Store locations in Boone and Valle Crucis, the Watauga County N.C. Take in some live music with afternoon Highway 106 personality KR, Kenneth Reese and his band BROADSTONE, who has opened for Confederate Railroad and played quite a few times at the Biltmore House, this Sat. Aug. 7th, at 7 pm. Held at the Trade Community Center in Trade, TN, come early and bring the family to enjoy the park and one of a kind fully operational grist mill, for a night of family friendly entertainment. Adults are $6, and kids under 12 get in free. The community center is located on highway 421 just across the NC/TN stateline, look for the sign on the right if coming from NC.
