August Weekend Events: Summer Days Are Quickly Fading! 08/17-19

As school has gotten underway and routines are being put into place, life for many is settling down with schedules instead of spontaneity. That in itself is not a bad thing, it just means that we are moving from one season to the next, and it is happening fast!

Just in the past week, the weather has been changing and getting cooler at night and darker quicker. This says that summer days are quickly fading, but that doesn’t mean that the fun of summer is over! Quite the contrary. There are always lots of exciting activities to do around the High Country. To celebrate the new school year, Chick-Fil-A is having a Back To School Coke Float Night this Friday, Aug 17th, from 5:30pm – 7:30pm.  Each child that comes in will get a FREE Coke Float and can visit with Mini-Moo! Looking for the Yard Sale of all Yard Sales? Here is ACT’s Annual BIG Sale, an absolutely huge annual yard sale sponsored by Appalachian and the Community Together (ACT), this Saturday, August 18th from 8am – 2pm. Held at Legends, across from the Red Onion Café, the sale consists of what was saved from ASU students that were left when they moved out as well as items from the community such as gently used Carpet, Clothes, Furniture, Electronics, Food, and much more. The sale will go on rain or shine, no early-birds, and is open to everyone with proceeds benefiting the energy conservation initiatives of local non-profits and a scholarship for ASU students. It’s time for the biggest Consignment sale in the High Country! It’s the Opening Day for the Wee-Cycle Children’s Consignment Fall Sale this Saturday, August 18th and lasting all week long until Saturday, August 25th, closed on Sunday. Hours for the sale are 10am – 6pm Monday – Friday and 8am – 6pm Saturdays. At the Fall sale, you’ll find tons of great products at a reduced price such as Clothing, Toys, Furniture, Books, Games, Shoes, you name, they’ve probably got it! YeeHaw! Gotta love them Cowboys! Head on over to Tweetsie and experience the annual Riders in the Sky performers as they bring Music and Comedy to the theme park the Cowboy way. You’ll love hearing this Grammy-Award winning  Quartet entertain audiences of all ages. The park is open from 9am – 6pm, reservations are not required and shows are included with your tickets which are $35 for adults, kids 3-12 are $22, and 2 and under are free. Rrrr Rev up those engines and come on out to the 3rd annual Car Show, Motorcycle Ride, Big Mow’s BBQ, & Silent Auction this Saturday, August 18th starting at 9am. Held at Laurel Springs Baptist Church in the Deep Gap area, join in the fun and register your car for the Car Show for $10 or take in the beauty of the awesome Cars and Trucks there. Also, register your Motorcycle for $25 which includes a T-shirt and lunch, take a ride, hear live Music, enjoy great BBQ, and bid on some terrific Silent Auction items. There is Free admission and trophies will be given out for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place, as well as a Peoples Choice trophy, and Motorcycle trophies too. Bring the whole familyfor a fun filled family-friendly time at the Mountaineer Fan Fest this Saturday, August 18th from 4-10pm at the Kidd Brewer Stadium on the ASU campus. Presented by Carolina West Wireless, gates open at 4pm with ASU Athletes and Coaches signing Autographs and Photo Ops, Cheerleaders will be Face Painting, and kids will have fun playing on the Inflatables and the stadium playing field. Then watch a Scrimmage followed by a concert by Need To Breathe. Tailgating is permitted and admission if free for ASU Football season-ticket holders and students, with general admission tickets $10.
