Back 2 School Festival: Please Help Pack the Bus

Did you know 29% of Watauga County residents live below the national average poverty level ranking the county 3rd in North Carolina? As you can imagine, there are kids that may show up to school without any school supplies.

The Children’s Council, WYN, Hospitality House, Quiet Givers and Watauga County Schools collaborated together to start the Back 2 School Festival. The festival was created to lift the heavy financial burden that back-to-school shopping creates for local families. When families are unable to afford supplies, the responsibility often falls on faculty and staff. This can leave the child feeling insecure or inadequate. No child wants to start the new school year feeling insecure.

How can you help?

Pack the Bus Watauga County

The Bus will be located at Yadkin Bank on Blowing Rock Road and Yadkin Bank at New Market Center (cameras will be on site) from July 4th through August 4th. Bring School Supplies to the bus during business hours! Goodwill boxes will be at the buses if you have some gently used thrift store donations you would like offer. The festival can get gift cards in exchange for these items. You may also bring them to the store and let them know they are for the Back 2 School Festival.

If you have branded supplies to offer please bring them to the bus or contact us to see what we need. RuppertS@watauga.k12.nc.us
Ideas of items we may need: hand sanitizer, lip balm, post-it-notes, pencils, erasers, pens, scratch pads, dry erase markers, to-do lists, folders

The festival would love to offer gift cards for kids to win to go shopping at local stores. Many children never get the chance to buy a new pair of jean or shoes. Gift cards to shoe stores or clothing stores are accepted. Mail To: Quiet Givers PO Box 95 Boone NC 28607
