Dolly Parton will read bedtime stories to kids

“Goodnight with Dolly” is premiering this Thursday, April 2, 2020.

Everyone’s favorite Book Lady is bringing children and families everywhere just what they need during a time of unrest. Goodnight with Dolly is a 10-week special series of weekly videos featuring Dolly Parton reading select Imagination Library books.

Goodnight with Dolly launches on April 2, with the hope that this gift will further inspire a love of books and shared storytime during this important period. The weekly read-aloud series features several of the Imagination Library’s wonderful books including “The Little Engine That Could.” Watty Piper’s classic tale of a determined little engine has been an inspiration to generations. This year marks the 90th Anniversary of “The Little Engine That Could.” For many years the story has been a source of inspiration for Dolly and it is the welcome book that all newly registered children in the United States and Canada receive when they sign up for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Dolly hopes this series of stories will provide comfort and reassurance to coping kids and families during the shelter-in-place mandates.

Whether you’re a fan of classical, jazz, oldies, country, or peace and quiet, this summer’s manual has something for you! Through books, games, musical experiences, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) activities, participants will interact with music and sound in a wide variety of ways. Learn about famous musicians, try your hand at making an original instrument, find out about the science behind the music you love, think about the music that nature is making every day, and rock your way all the way around the world with hands-on activities for children and families. The Watauga County Library Summer Reading Kick-Off – June 1st

The last day of school is right around the corner. The Watauga County Library is kicking off an amazing reading program for children of all ages.

The Watauga County Public Library and the Western Watauga Library are perfect places for children and families to become empowered to build a better world! Just as skyscrapers are built to great heights, one brick at a time, participants will find themselves reaching for the stars through hands-on learning experiences this summer. Children who join the summer library program keep their minds active and enter school in the fall ready to learn and ready to succeed. So, go forth and build a better world.

The 2017 Summer Reading Program “Build a Better World” is open to young people, preschool through young adult, with programs, prize drawings, story times, and more. Registration begins on June 1st.
