Chick-fil-A Says Goodbye to Cole Slaw!

Chick-fil-A ® has made the difficult decision to remove Cole Slaw from the menu on January 18th. Many customers love the Cole Slaw, yet Chick-fil-A® has also heard from customers that they are looking for new tastes and healthier ways to eat in their restaurants. To provide this variety, means Chick-fil-A® will occasionally have to remove items from their menu. Check out this link for Chick-fil-A’s tribute to Cole Slaw…and the recipe!

Chick-fil-A® will soon be one of the first fast food restaurants in the industry to add “superfoods” like kale and Broccolini®, to its menu. Just in time to keep New Year’s resolutions, customers nationwide can order the low-calorie Superfood Side starting on January 18.

Kale Chick-fil-A

The gourmet side was developed in collaboration with James Beard Award Nominee and Atlanta-based chef, Ford Fry of Ford Fry Restaurants.

The Superfood Side is made with a blend of hand-chopped kale and Broccolini, tossed in a sweet and tangy maple vinaigrette dressing and topped with flavorful dried sour cherries. It is served with a blend of roasted nuts (walnuts, almonds and pecans) that enhances the flavor and provides added crunch.

“I really enjoyed working with the culinary team from Chick-fil-A on incorporating ingredients that are unique to the industry,” said Fry. “We know that it can be challenging to eat healthy on-the-go, so we wanted to create something that customers will love eating that’s also nutritious.”

The side is available in 5 or 8-ounce servings, and priced starting at $2.59 for the 5 oz. and $3.79 for the 8 oz. portion. The Superfood Side will also be offered as a substitution in any combo meal for an upcharge of 94 cents.

Tasty Tuesday: Summer Favorites

It’s that time of year again…yes, that back-t0-school-frenzy, end-of-the-summer, whatever-do-I-do-with-all-this-great-produce?  time of year! I love hanging out at my local Farmer’s Market in late August and September because the produce is just incredible. Have you noticed recently how stunningly beautiful fresh produce can be? (And when I take pictures of it, it doesn’t move, so it’s easy to capture that beauty!)

I want to bring to your attention some of my summer favorites. I’m all about preserving and saving some of these wonderful summer flavors for my family to enjoy during the winter months. NOW is the time start planning for this!

What can I do with all this fruit?

Lovin’ me some fresh veggies….

Other summer faves:

Now.

Take a stroll with me through our farmer’s market. I think I mentioned before that I think that fresh produce is just gloriously beautiful and I want to share some of my personal favorites with you. (And I can NOT help it that a photo of a pecan sticky bun snuck into my gallery of photos. I do NOT know how that happened!) For some reason, I can’t seem to import a whole gallery of photos (there are 31 photos) so I’m going to ask y’all to visit my lovely Farmer’s Market photos over at My Sister’s Kitchen. I just love the sights and smells of a Farmer’s Market!

I’m starting to wrap up my tenure here writing the High Country Parent Tasty Tuesday column and I want to invite you to head over to My Sister’s Kitchen to visit me where I’ll still be writing regularly. If you subscribe, you’ll get an email telling you when there’s new Kitchen News.
