The Tech Effect – A Social Media Conference this Sunday! For Parents, Teachers, Students, and Community Leaders!

Do you know someone who is totally consumed with the internet? Do you know someone who is confused about all the texting they see going on, and what the lingo is about? Do you know someone who is concerned about these issues involving the internet and people they love?

You won’t want to miss the event this coming Sunday, April 1st, from 3 – 6 pm, that will bring education, information, and understanding called The Tech Effect, a conference explaining all of this and much more! It is for Students, Parents, Teachers, and Community Leaders and anyone else interested in attending. The conference is being held at Watauga High School in the Auditorium and a large crowd is expected to attend due to the increasing importance of the risks and dangers of internet abuse and bullying. Sponsored by local Youth Ministers and Leaders, Teachers, and concerned Citizens of Watauga County, The Tech Effect has a great line-up of speakers efficient in the concentrated areas of the internet and our youth.

Beginning the conference will be an open group session with Merrie Johnson, who is with the NCBSC Be Do Tell Ministry, and travels much of her time where she leads retreats and conferences bringing together information on youth and media issues for Parents, Students, and Community Leaders. The conference will then break out into 3 different sessions to choose from.

The first is geared towards Parents and Community Leaders and features Alan Flora, who is head of the NCSBI Internet Safety Investigations and travels throughout the state of North Carolina helping to educate and teach Students, Teachers, and Parents on issues of Internet Safety. As a trained professional, Mr. Flora investigates internet crimes and it’s predators.

The second session is about Girls and Texting, what is the meaning of Sexting, Social Media and Purity. Merrie Johnson shares relevant information in an age of easily being taken advantage of and harassed or abused, verbally and/or sexually across internet lines.

Then the third session is about Guys and the meaning and usage of Sexting, Pornography and how flagrant and accessible it is to our youth, Social Media and Purity. Chris Wilson, a Youth Leader who speaks extensively at Youth Events to Students in the areas of Character, Purity, and Spiritual Growth. Along with Chris, Adam Melancon, a fellow Youth Speaker, will also be speaking. Adam travels and writes for “The Silver Ring Thing”, curriculum and teaching on Character, Leadership, Respect, and Purity.

After a break and refreshments, the conference will close with bringing everyone back together for a group session with Merrie Johnson again and pulling the information that has been shared all together. It is The Tech Effect and it’s speakers hope that everyone leaves with a better understanding and knowledge of the internet and the risks associated with it.

Here is a schedule for The Tech Effect conference:

3:50-4:00       BREAK/REFRESHMENTS

4:00-5:00        BREAK OUT SESSIONS
