Easter Festivities in the High Country

The following are the public Easter Egg Hunts that I have found for Watauga, Ashe and Avery Counties. Please add any other egg hunts and family activities I have missed in the comments!

March 14-16 @ 7 PM nightly, 4PM Sunday Matinee: : Extravagant Grace, Portrait of Lovea, an Easter presentation at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, 3505 Bamboo Rd., Boone


Downtown Boone Egg-Stravaganza. The event will begin at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 15, 2008 at the Watauga County Library. Storytelling, arts and crafts will entertain the children until 1:00 pm. We will have children’s face painting, balloon animals and a golden egg surprise game. For more information call 828-262-4532.


Saturday, March 22 at 10 A.M.

Poplar Grove Baptist Church will host an Easter Egg Hunt
for all children ages 12 and under. Children are asked to bring their own baskets and come search for eggs filled with treats! This is a free event!

Poplar Grove Baptist Church is located 1 mile up Poplar Grove Road South, off of Hwy 105 South, behind the Tomato Shack. Call 828-963-9390 for more information.

Fifth Annual Egg Scramble at 1 PM at the Moses Cone Manor House.
This event is free to the public and is jointly sponsored by the National Park Service and Parkway Craft Center. Children ages 2 – 11 may participate finding eggs hidden around the estate. Come early as parking is limited. Please bring your own basket. Drawings for baskets filled with goodies will be held immediately after the egg hunt. An egg toss will complete the experience and will include all ages. Don’t miss this fun filled afternoon! As always, weather may interfere. If you have questions, please call 828-295-7938.

Easter Egg Hunt on the Slopes of Sugar Mountain
9 AM Sugar Ski Mountain and Resort
Sugar Mountain Resort will host its second Easter egg hunt on the slopes. The “golden egg” containing a 2008-2009 season pass will be scattered among hundreds of fun-filled plastic eggs spread over the lower portion of the Lower Flying Mile slope.

Participants will load the Yellow lift promptly at 9 am; unload at mid-station and meet at the Easter egg hunt start line, which will be clearly visible from the Yellow lift on Lower Flying Mile. As soon as all participants have gathered the hunt will begin. A valid slope pass and your skis or snowboard are required for participation. Participants 12 years or younger are welcome, bunnies included.

Ashe County Parks and Recreation is gearing up for a fun-filled day in the park with the Easter Bunny! The bunny himself is expected to arrive in the park around 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 22. The bunny will be hiding his eggs filled with special treats for all youth to find. Bring your baskets and hope on over to the park for a day of excitement.

From Dawn in the comments: Earthfare is having an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 11am. This was listed on their calendar on display at the front of the store near the customer service counter. No details were listed but the Community Coordinator, Angela, will have more information.
