Tweetsie Railroad Halloween Festival

When: September 21–22, 28-29; October 5-6, 12-13, 19-20, 26-27

Where: Boone/Blowing Rock, NC
Ghost Train rides, haunted house, black hole, 3-D Maze, freaky forest, face painting, clogging, spooks, and other such Halloween mischief. Safe Family adventures. Best bet is to purchase tickets in advance.

Parkway Elementary Fall Festival

When: October 5, 2018; 5:30pm – 8:00pm
Where: Parkway Elementary

The event will feature JUMP! inflatables, face-painting, cake-walk, silent auction, game room, snacks like cotton candy and popcorn and more!

Brushy Mountain Apple Festival

When: October 6, 2018
Where: Downtown N Wilkesboro, NC

The Brushy Mountain Apple Festival is one of the largest one-day arts and crafts festivals in the Southeast. The Brushy Mountain Apple Festival is not just this club’s largest fundraiser but has become one of Wilkes County’s biggest fundraisers. Over 100 civic, church and other non-profit organizations participate in the festival. Over 160,000 people visit this festival during the day and it’s FREE. Hardin Park Fall Festival

When: October 5, 2018

Where: Hardin Park Elementary

Festival from 5:00-8:00pm. There will be games, food vendors, raffles and MUCH more!

 

Daniel Boo!

When: October 12, 13, 19, 20, 26, 27

Where: Haunted Horn’s Family Friendly Event

During the Daniel Boo! hours (6:00-7:30 pm), guests of all ages can come enjoy some spooky, no-so-scary fun. Both children and parents alike can play fall-inspired games, win prizes, wander through the Wacky Woods on an interactive scavenger hunt, and much more! Also new this year is Witch Craft, a beer garden featuring local breweries.

Ticket prices:

*Daniel Boo!: $10 for ages 3-17. Parents are FREE with purchase of child’s ticket, 2 and under also free. (If parents wish to come back after dark for our main haunt, they can upgrade their ticket at the door for $10)

 

Sugar Mountain OktoberFest

When: October 13-14, 2018; 10AM-5PM

Where: Sugar Mountain, NC

Over 40 artisan’s and craftspeople open their stands at 10:00 am each day. A sampling of this year’s vendors includes: chair canning, wooden toys, oil paintings, stain glass, handmade furniture, dolls, copper art, ceramics, honey, beeswax candles, birdhouses, and much more.

Enjoy the beautiful fall foliage and a panoramic view of the surrounding area from the mile and a half long chairlift ride to Sugar’s 5,300 ft peak. Everyone, even mountain bikers are welcome to ride the lift.

The children’s activity center, located in the Ski School Play Yard will keep the young ones entertained from noon until 5:00 pm Saturday & Sunday.

Kids can enjoy hayrides, inflatable bounce houses, and a chance to meet Sugar Bear & Sweetie Bear. Cotton candy, popcorn, caramel apples, homemade cookies, and drinks are also available in the children’s activity center. All ages are welcome to participate.

Todd New River Festival

Where: Todd, NC

Music (some of the best bluegrass in the High Country), crafts, family activities, moonwalk, rubber ducky race on the river, and more in the historic railroad boomtown of Todd.

Valle Country Fair

When: October 20, 2018; 9AM-4PM

Where: Valle Crucis, NC

The Valle Country Fair is an overgrown church bazaar set in the center of one of the most picturesque valleys in the North Carolina mountains at the peak of the fall color season. All monies raised go to fund High Country organizations which serve people in need. Last year more than 10,000 people enjoyed:

* 135 juried fine art & crafts booths
* Freshly pressed apple cider
* Hot-out-of-the-kettle apple butter
* Homemade jams & jellies
* Brunswick stew, chili, barbecue

Woolly Worm Festival

When: October 20-21, 2018; 10AM-4PM

Where: Banner Elk, NC

Don’t miss this one of a kind festival where racing woolly worms is a highlight. A true predictor of the coming winter weather is the honor bestowed upon the winner of the final heat on Saturday. Woolly Worms are racing all day for this event with the Championship race held Saturday at the end of the festival close to the day’s end for the festival. You will find great food, a woad wace, live entertainment, and lots of arts and craft vendors. All proceeds are given back to the community to enhance schools, promote business, and tourism.
