Fourth of July Family Events in the High Country {2015}

It is one of our favorite holidays in the High Country! Fourth of July in the High Country is always so much fun for everyone. Here is a list of family-friendly events in and around the Boone, NC area.

July 3, 2015

Avery County – The Cranberry Community will hold their annual 4th of July Parade and Cookout on Friday, July 3.  Parade will begin at 6 pm and cookout will follow with fireworks beginning at dark.

Christmas in July in West Jefferson –  Christmas in July will be held July 3rd and 4th this year. The festival features the very best in traditional mountain music and 
handmade crafts from throughout the Northwest Mountains
of North Carolina. Nowhere else will you find such an excellent 
array of food, fun and festivities for the entire family than at 
Christmas in July!

Blowing Rock Fourth of July Celebration – 9am-until: Adult Horse Shoe Tournament (18 years & up, $75 first place, $50 second place)

9:30am-11am: Park Games (prizes awarded for 1st and 2nd place in all games!)
-Water Balloon Toss
-Watermelon Eating Contest
-More, plus Face Painting

11am-4:30pm: Climbing Tower & Bounce Obstacle Course

10am- 11am: Cloggers

11am-Noon: Patriotic Sing Along

Noon-1:30pm: Live Music

2pm: Independence Day Parade

3-4:30pm: Bluegrass Music

9:30pm: Fireworks at the Blowing Rock Country Club

Boone 4th of July Activities – This year’s parade will be held on July 4th at 11am. The parade will travel down King Street in Downtown Boone and will conclude at Poplar Grove Extension. Take a spot on King Street to watch the parade go by and then head over to the Jones House for watermelon and cake. A concert will follow at 1:00pm. The evening festivities at Clawson/Burnley Park off of Hunting Hills Lane will start at 7:00 pm with family activities and fireworks beginning around 9:30 pm.

July 4th Party in the Park –  Come Join the Fun! The Annual 4th of July Parade begins at Lees-McRae College and ends at Tate-Evans Park with a Party in the Park and Duck Races to benefit local children! The Parade begins at 11am at Lees-McRae College. After the Parade at Dunn’s Deli, Main Street East- Until its all gone! Smoked Pork and pit cooked beef, hotdogs, burgers and corn on the cob! Come Hungry!

Justice for All Parade in Todd – For the past ten years, Elkland Art Center has hosted The Liberty Parade, an expression of community spirit presented through costumes, props, and giant puppets in Todd, NC on the Fourth of July. This year’s theme is “Justice for All”. The parade will feature “Winds of Change,” giant puppets representing the East and West Winds, bringing new life and inspiration to all.

Arrive at 10:30 to get a costume, prop, or pick your favorite giant puppet! The parade begins in a field at the corner of NC Highway 194N and Railroad Grade Rd in Todd, NC at 11:00 am.

Bethel Blast – Celebrate America’s Birthday! Everybody Welcome! Enjoy great music, bar-b-que, fireworks, fellowship and lots of fun. 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm.

Tweetsie Railroad Fireworks – Enjoy the most spectacular fireworks in the High Country on July 4, 2015. Parking is $10 per car. Optional dinner and premium fireworks viewing in the Hacienda with a special buffet chicken and barbeque dinner with all the trimmings. Adults: $14.95 and Children: $9.95 Children 2 and under are free. Buy your wristband tickets at the ticket office.

Beech Mountain 47th Annual Pig Roast – This long-standing community event has been a sell-out almost every year. The event features BBQ pork and turkey prepared by the Beech Mountain fire department, as well as all the fixings, topped off with a Moon Pie. Serving begins serving at 6:00 pm. Music, vendors and children’s activities entertain the crowd right up to the fireworks celebration at dark. The date is Saturday July 4, 2015 and the location will be the Beech Mountain Resort.Tickets can be purchased in advance from the Chamber of Commerce.

  1. Just clicked on the link to Tweetsie for their fireworks for more details but the site says it’s $10 parking per car — thought you might want to adjust that in the post. We’ve lived in Boone a year and this is the first I’ve found this website — great info, thanks!
