The Banner Elk Chamber’s 4th of July Parade

One of the most popular (and most fun!) Fourth of July parades in North Carolina takes place each Independence day in Banner Elk. It’s a parade that makes Uncle Sam proud, with star-spangled vehicles, people and animals parading down Main Street surrounded by huge crowds.

The Banner Elk Fourth of July parade begins at 11:00 a.m. at the Lees-McRae College campus library and flows through the heart of this quaint resort town in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The parade is open to all participants and attracts everything from classic cars and trucks to drum & bugle corps to an array of furry friends, not to mention regular appearances by alpacas from nearby Apple Hill Farm.

Most participants in the parade follow the time-honored tradition of tossing candy to spectators.

The parade concludes around noon and is followed by the Family Fun Fourth celebration from 12-6 p.m., which is free and open to the public.

Banner Elk’s Duck Race, which features hundreds of rubber ducks racing down the creek in the town park, is another must-see event on July 4th.
