Fresh Lemonade Recipe & the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund

dreamstime_767515 In the summer, when the grocery stores and produce stands turn yellow with lemons, my kids start to get so excited about fresh lemonade! I am not usually a huge lemonade fan, unless it is freshly squeezed and not more than 1 day old! We have perfected our method of making basic lemonade, and I have three very eager lemon squeezers in the house! Here is our basic recipe, which comes directly from the Sunkist website:

  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 Sunkist® lemon , unpeeled, cut in cartwheel slices (see recipe)
  • ice cubes

In a large pitcher, combine the lemon juice and sugar; stir to dissolve the sugar.
Add the remaining ingredients and blend well. It says to use honey as a substitute for the sugar, and I’m eager to try it.

On another note, I have started a Virtual Lemonade Stand to raise money for Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. At my stand, I’m serving Rosemary Watermelon, Citrus, and Sparkling Ginger Lemonade with spring herbs. You can get the recipes for those gourmet lemonades here. I bought a glass of Ginger Lemonade from myself! – mmmmm… yummy!

Click here to buy a glass, and give to Ovarian Cancer Research.

Starting this month, you can visit to design and open your own virtual lemonade stand and even pick the flavors of lemonade you want to feature at your stand, like Sparkling Ginger or Rosemary Watermelon.

For every stand opened, Electrolux will donate $1 to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF). In addition, you can help the cause even more by buying and sending virtual glasses of lemonade to your friends and family, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting OCRF. This is a great way to celebrate the beginning of summer, let friends know you’re thinking of them, and support a great cause.

Even better, just for opening your stand, and then again every day that you log in and visit your stand, you will be entered to win a new French Door Refrigerator from Electrolux – perfect for storing your own pitchers of lemonade. When others donate to your stand, they will also have a chance to win.

My dad has a refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom, and it is so cool! (no pun intended) It lakes sense since cool air sinks, and it is much more roomy. Plus, you don’t have to bend down to get the things you use most in the refrigerator..
