High Country Family Weekend Events August 28 – August 30

Happy weekend! We have experienced a taste of fall weather this week. The leaves are starting to change in the High Country as well. We wish you all a wonderful fun-filled weekend. Check out all the family-friendly events below:

August 28:

1. Tweetsie – Bring the whole family out to enjoy Tweetsie fun!

2. Open Play Time at The Children’s PlayhouseCome spend quality family time exploring the art activities, pretend vet clinic, climbing wall, dress-up area, ball pit and more! $5 per person admission or buy a membership for the whole family for $100 per year. Open play hours are 10-5 on Fridays and 10-3:00 on Saturdays.

3. Family Movie Showings: Appalachian State I.G. Greer – Disney’s Cinderella: 7 pm and 9 pm (Tickets are are $1.00 in advance at PSU Ticket Center located at the PSU Information Center (cash, App Express, & credit cards accepted) and $2.00 at the door (cash only).

4. Blowing Rock Recreation Pool – Enjoy the public swim from 2:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

5. Battle on Beech Pickleball Tournament – The Beech Mountain Club is hosting a Pickleball tournament, the Battle on Beech 1, on August 28, 29 & 30. The event includes food vendors & 50/50 raffles. Spectators are welcome! Call 828-387-4208 ext. 263 for more information.

6. Jones House Summer Concert this week will feature Strictly Strings. Concert begins at 5 pm. Bring blankets or lawn chairs to sit on and an umbrella in the event of rain.

7. Music in the Valle7:00pm The “Music in the Valle” Concert Series at Valle Crucis Community Park. Admission is free, but a $5 donation to the park per person is recommended. Bring a chair or a blanket and a picnic, as food generally is not available for sale.

8. Bonfires at Chetola – Enjoy some outdoor fun with your friends at the new fire pit by Chetola Lake at Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock. Bonfires are scheduled for 8 to 11 p.m. every Friday evening, weather permitting. Kids can purchase $5 s’mores kits and roast their marshmallows over the open fire. The event also features an outdoor cash bar and live music. The event is free and open to the public. August 29:

1. Watauga County Farmers Market is Open! – The market opens with live music from local musicians, cooking demos from local food enthusiasts, activities in the kids corner, and the unbeatable atmosphere that makes the market “Boone’s Town Square Since 1974!” Join PHARMN at the Kids’ Corner

3. Rocky Knob Park Pump Track Grand Opening – 9:30am: Parents let your children grab their bikes and head over to Rocky Knob Park this Saturday morning. The newly renovated Pump Track at Rocky Knob Park will be unveiled before the start of the Blue Ridge Battle Pump Track Challenge.

5. Green Valley Park TubeFest – 10:00am: You and your family are invited to TubeFest! This is an outdoor family recreation event highlighting planned park improvements and the need for resources to make them happen. It is a FUNdraiser while having fun!

7. Craft Time at Michael’s (Bookmark) – They craft, you shop! Kids 3 and up can enjoy a quick project and take home a finished masterpiece. Sign up in store or online, or just drop in. $2 per child, supplies included.

8. Blowing Rock Recreation Pool – Enjoy the public swim from 11:00 am to 7:30 pm. Click here for more details.

10. Salamander Night Hike at Elk Knob State Park – Let’s get out in the woods and look for some salamanders. Join a park ranger as they wander around looking for these nocturnal amphibians. What makes them different from reptiles like lizards. Join in to find out. Be sure to bring a flashlight. Meet at the Park Office. Starts at 8pm.

11. Honey Bear Campground Family Drive-In Movie – “Finding Nemo“! The movie starts at dusk. Check in at the office to purchase your car parking pass! Only $5.00 a car load, so load em up!

August 30:

3. Beech Mountain Sunday Concert – Come out and enjoy acoustic pop/rock with the Lucky Strikes at the Beech Alpen Pavilion from 5-9 pm on Sunday August 30. Bring chairs or blankets. Free.

4. Music on the Veranda at Green Park Inn, Blowing Rock, NC – Free concerts every Sunday evening from 5-8:00pm. Enjoy local favorites the Harris Brothers, The Neighbors, Mountain Radio, Todd Wright and more on the veranda of this classic historic hotel. Bring a lawn chair to enjoy the show! Performances rain or shine- find the concert indoors in inclement weather. Drinks and Tavern Fare available. Performance schedule coming soon.
