High Country Fashion and a Giveaway with the Boone Service League!

The High Country Mom Squad will be joining the Boone Service League for an afternoon of fabulous fashions, food, entertainment, and shopping on Saturday, April 4, 2008. The League’s Annual Spring Benefit will be held at The Inn at Crestwood off Shulls Mills Road from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

The Boone Service League Spring Benefit is designed to provide an entertaining afternoon for friends, couples, or individuals. There will be a little something for everyone…a silent auction with items from the High Country and beyond, a fashion trends show, a live auction, and entertainment… The event will begin at 11:00 am with a Silent Auction and raffle located in the Library and Maplewood Room at Crestwood, followed by a live auction during the Fashion Show. Various items, services, gift certificates, vacations and more from the High Country and beyond will be up for grabs at this year’s auction.

This year’s fashion show will spotlight an assortment of everyday, casual, and fine fashions adorning our area stores. The fashion show will take place in the Dominic’s Table Dining Room with a backdrop of spectacular views of Grandfather Mountain. Six featured stores will focus on the latest trends for Summer 2009. Stores include: Belk, Mast Store, South Clothiers, Suddenly Showing and Our Place from Charlotte. Be sure to keep an eye out for many of the High Country’s celebrities who have volunteered their time to model for the event such as Mayor Loretta Clawson, Cay Harkins and daughters from Studio K, Sarah Pinix and other members of the High Country Mom Squad. The featured emcee for the event is Scrambled Squares creator and host, Buzz Berry and our auctioneer is Jenny Miller.

Mom Squad writers Sarah Pinnix, Amy Forrester, Tiffany Christian, and Lillie Troyer will be showcasing the fashions of High Country favorite Mast General Store! We are beyond excited to help raise funds for the Boone Service League, and have LOTS of fun while we’re at it!   I have known many Service League members through the years, and this organization does so much good for our community!

This event is Boone Service League’s largest fundraiser. Through this and other annual Boone Service League events such as Christmas pictures and holiday gift-wrapping, the organization is able to offer assistance that reaches many people in the High Country areas of Ashe, Avery, and Watauga counties. The Boone Service League provides six scholarship programs for middle and high school students and rising college freshmen each year. The organization also provides assistance for general operating funds and special projects for local non-profit organizations that operate in the High Country. Some of the organizations that have benefited from the grants program in the past have been: Department of Social Service Foster Child Program, Habitat for Humanity, Hope Pregnancy Resource Center, Hospice, Hospitality House, New River Behavioral Health Care, OASIS, Parents As Teachers, The Playhouse, Rainbow Center Landship House, Watauga County Schools, Watauga Education Foundation, Watauga County Humane Society, WAMY, WeCan, and many other groups. Members are also involved in hands-on service projects such as Meals on Wheels, Adopt a Street, Habitat for Humanity and many other special projects. Individuals in need may also apply for assistance from the Boone Service League. This organization strives to live up to our motto, a Heart for the High Country, as we provide assistance through a number of channels. We are proud that our organization keeps all the money that we raise in the High Country and provides an opportunity for women in the area to show how much we care about our community. This year’s grants and scholarship recipients will be honored at the upcoming event on April 4th.
