High Country Halloween Happenings! October 27-31

Welcome to the High Country Halloween Happenings right here in the Boone area, and the surrounding towns and counties. Check out what is going on in our Spooktacular town for all of the FUN, and if you have an event not listed, please feel free to add to the calendar.

Thursday, Oct. 27th

Trick or Treat for Tots, sponsored by the ASU Housing department, and will host door-to-door fun at the East Side Resident Halls of Hoey, Cannon, Lovill, East, Doughton, White and Cone halls. Friday, Oct. 28th –

Happy Harvest Family Fest, taking place at Mount Vernon Baptist Church from 6 – 8:30 pm. Bring the whole family and dress the kids up in their best Fruit or Vegetable costume for the Costume Contest and have Fun, Great Food, and Fellowship. For more info call 828-266-9700.

Haunted Tractor Ride and New River Corn Maze, near Deep Gap, it’s the last weekend to get lost and have the Corn scared out of you! Ends Monday, Oct. 31st from 8pm until people stop coming. Saturday, Oct. 29th –

1st annual Beary Scary Halloween, held at Grandfather Mountain from 10 am – 3 pm. The kids will enjoy Halloween activities such as Crafts, Stories, Costume Contests, and exciting educational programs called “Creepy, Crawly Critters,” “Going Batty for Bats” and “Owl Encounter”, which are included with the regular price admission of $15 for adults 13-59, just $13 for seniors, $7 for kids 4-12, free for kids under 4, and kids in costume will get in at half price. Children’s Halloween Celebration, sponsored by the Ashe Farmer’s Market. Come on out from 5-8 pm for Kid’s Games, Halloween Photos and a Cookout, including a Cupcake Walk, Clothespin Drop, Caramel Dip, Pumpkin Face Painting and much more. For more info visit www.ashefarmersmarket.com.

Blowing Rock Halloween Festival, sponsored by the Blowing Rock Parks and Recreation Department, held in Downtown Blowing Rock. Make sure to attend from 3-9 pm for Trick-or-Treating, a Costume Contest, Hayrides, a Bonfire in the Park, a Scavenger Hunt and the Monster March Parade, all part of the Fun festivities. There will also be Games and a Fun House in the Rec Center from 3-5:30 pm, and the parade begins at the American Legion at 5:45 pm, followed by Trick-or-Treating at 6pm. “Ghoul” School, part of the Blowing Rock Halloween Festival, the “Ghoul” School is held at Blowing Rock Elementary School from 4-9pm and cost just $5. Learn how to be a scary “Ghoul”! For more info call 828-295-5222.

Trunk or Treat, hosted by Bethany Lutheran Church on Big Hill Road near Green Valley School, from 3-6:15 pm. Games will start at 3pm include Fishing, Pumpkin Bag Toss, Pin the Face on the Pumpkin, Potato-Gun Shooting, Cupcake Walk and more. Halloween Celebration and Hayride, sponsored by Beech Mountain and starting the Fun at the Town Hall at 6pm for Trick or Treating, followed by a Halloween Party including Dinner, Spooktacular Games, a Haunted Hayride and a Haunted Hunt taking place at the Buckeye Recreation Center. Sunday, Oct. 30th –

Trunk or Treat, hosted by FaithBridge United Methodist Church on Aho Rd. Bring the kids and enjoy going around to the cars and getting candy from 4-6 pm. For more info call 828-295-8333.

Monday, Oct. 31st –

8th annual Halloween Trunk or Treat , held at Tate-Evans Park in Banner Elk from 5:30-8:30pm with a Big Haunted House and loads of Candy to give away. Get ready for the Ghost Mobile Contest with Prizes to be awarded, and an All-Aged Costume Contest with winners in each age group. For more info call Nancy Owen at 828-898-5398, ext. 221.

5th annual Newland Halloween Extravaganza , hosted by the Newland Business Association and Downtown Merchants who will stay open late for Trick or Treating from 4-7:30pm. Annual Trunk or Treat, hosted by the Mabel United Methodist Church in Zionville from 5-7pm. Join the church for their annual event taking place right in their parking lot. Look for a Hot Dog Dinner in the Fellowship Hall as well. Bring a friend, or two, and come have lots of fun!

Boone Mall Halloween Festivities, from 3-9pm, be there for a night full of Fun with Face Painting, Trick-or-Treating, a Pumpkin House and Costume Contests. The Costume Contests starts at 6pm and Buzz Berry is the Emcee, also look for Scape the Goat and his furry friends as they wander through mall. Fall Face Painting, sponsored by the Banner Elk Town Hall from 12 noon – 5pm. Meet Master Face Painter Trish Daniels as she paints up great pictures on faces. For more info call Nancy Owen at 828-898-5398, ext. 221.

Downtown Boo!, sponsored by the Downtown Boone Org. and Merchants, starting at 4pm, the kids will start the Fun at the Watauga Public Library with Scary Stories, Songs and Activities, then at 4:30pm, march in the Parade to the Jones House. Halloween Monster Concert, presented by The Hayes School of Music Organ Studio and held at the Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall at ASU. Starting at 8pm, the show will feature Bach’s famous “Toccata and Fugue in d Minor” with special audience participation, Singing of “Pumpkin Carols,” a Name-That-Scary-Tune Quiz, Free Candy, a Costume Contest and a Silent Movie “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” accompanied by the organ.
