High Country Weekend Family Events April 10 – 12

High Gravity Adventures Opening

April 10:

Open Play Time at The Children’s Playhouse – Come spend quality family time exploring our art activities, pretend vet clinic, climbing wall, dress-up area, ball pit and more! $5 per person admission or buy a membership for the whole family for $100 per year. Open play hours are 10-5 Tuesday-Fridays and 10-3:00 on Saturdays.

2. Tweetsie’s Opening Weekend – Tweetsie Railroad pulled into the station on Friday, April 10, 2015 for another exciting season filled with Wild West adventure for the whole family.

3. High Gravity Adventures Grand Opening – A new family fun adventure is now open in the High Country! The High Gravity Adventures is celebrating this Saturday, April 11th with an official Grand Opening event combining aerial adventure, food, music, giveaways, and more.

4. Playhouse Buildfest – FREE Admission! Pizza and snacks for sale! Presented by The Children’s Playhouse and the North Carolina Science Festival. Playhouse Buildfest will be held from 10am-2pm on Saturday, April 11th at Parkway School. There will be a special “soft open” from 9am to 10am for kids with special needs. This free celebration of problem solving and creativity will feature hands-on STEAM* activities for kids aged 2-12. *STEAM= science, technology, engineering, art, and math. There will be all ages activities as well as activities specifically designed for preschool grades K-3, and grades 4-6.

5. Make a Lady Bug Clay Pot at Michael’s Craft Store: 10am – 12pm Drop in. Take home a completed project. Just $2 per child for 30 minutes of creative craft fun. Ages 3 and up

6. Lowe’s Build & Grow (10:00am) – Spring is here and it’s time to start gardening! Your child will love learning about plants and watching them grow with this great kit! Bring your child to Lowe’s (Boone, West Jefferson, and Banner Elk)

8. Family Fun Day at Appalachian Mountain Brewery (4:00pm – 8:00pm) – Activities include LIVE MUSIC! Children activities include: Art activities, games, corn hole, face painting, free popcorn, giant bubbles and more! A bluegrass style band will play from 5:00 or 5:30 until about 7:00. The food truck will be available to purchase dinner/snacks. Beer and soft drinks are available for purchase. AMB is graciously donating a portion of their proceeds to the Children’s Council. Please come out and support The Children’s Council and to have some fun!

9. Bonfires at Chetola – Enjoy some outdoor fun with your friends at the new fire pit by Chetola Lake at Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock. Bonfires are scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. every Saturday evening, weather permitting. Kids can purchase $5 s’mores kits and roast their marshmallows over the open fire. The event also features an outdoor cash bar and live music. The event is free and open to the public. 4. “Trail Track Hike at Elk Knob State Park – The weather is finally warming up so let’s get outside and explore as plants spring to life after a long winter. We will use the Track Trail brochures and do some hands-on activities and exploration. Please dress appropriately for the weather and note that it may be several degrees cooler at Elk Knob than in surrounding areas.
