High Country Weekend Family Events July 29-31, 2016

We have a great list of family events for your enjoyment. Check out all the events and plan your weekend of fun.

July 29:

1. Family Movies {Now Playing}

2. Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show – 8:00am – 5:00pm See riders take their steeds through the courses! Enjoy the views from the grand stands or aside the rings. Great concessions available. Cash only admission, just $10.

3. Camp Creativity: All About Me – Friday at Michael’s Craft Store – 10am-12pm ($4) Join in on a summer crafting journey. You won’t want to miss Face Paint Friday! Today make a Foam Bead Bracelet and a Crazy Hat. Parent or guardian must remain on premises during Camp Creativity.

4. Family Pool Time: Robbin’s Pool at Broyhill Park in Blowing Rock – Public Swim Times: 11:00am-5:00pm and 6:00pm-8:30pm

6. Music in the Valle – Concerts begin at 7 p.m. from May 27 until August 12. August 19 through September 9, concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. Bring a chair or a blanket, a picnic, and lots of friends! Admission is free, but a $5 donation to the Park per person is recommended.

7. Music on the Lawn in Blowing Rock – 5:30pm: Free outdoor concerts every Friday evening, weather permitting! Enjoy classic country, blues, bluegrass, and other genres in an always-changing lineup. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket. Drinks and snacks available for purchase.

8. BeanStalk Community Theatre presents Disney’s The Little Mermaid – 7:00pm at Watauga High School: Ariel falls in love with a human and must win his heart before the spell that makes her human wears off.

9. Bonfires at Chetola – Enjoy some outdoor fun with your friends at the new fire pit by Chetola Lake at Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock. Bonfires are scheduled for 6 p.m. every Saturday evening, weather permitting. Kids can purchase $5 s’mores kits and roast their marshmallows over the open fire. The event also features an outdoor cash bar and live music. The event is free and open to the public. July 30:

1. Watauga County Farmers Market – Join the market from 8am to noon. In addition to all the wonderful produce and products, coffee, cookies, and camaraderie, biscuits, breakfast pizza, and baked goods, seeing friends and swapping lies, the Farmers Market has lots of fun activities.  Nate Harris will be performing on Center Stage, and on side stage, the talented Marshall Daniels will be playing the handpan (looks a lot like a UFO or a wok!) and the hammered dulcimer.   Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture will be having a cooking demonstration to teach us how to convert fresh veggies into delectable delights.  Folks from High Country Recreation will provide information about recreation in the high country and also be selling athletic t-shirts.   (There will be no Kid’s Corner this week.)

5. New River Celebration Day – Celebrate 100 yeas of State Park at New River State Park for an all-day event, filled with fun and festivities on July 30th, 2016. Meet at the visitor center at the US Hwy 221 Access. There will be a host programs and activities going on all day. Each program has its own description and is listed separately, and you can participate in the following activities: Nature Hike, River Ramble, Activities for children, Eastern Hellbender, fishing for kids. 6. Make a Kids Club® Monster Bookmark Corners – 10:00am-12:00pm: They craft, you shop! Kids 3 and up can enjoy a quick project and take home a finished masterpiece. Sign up in store or online, or just drop in. $2 per child, supplies included. Parent or guardian must remain on premises during the event.

4. Cyclo.Via in Downtown Boone – From 11am – 4pm portions of Howard Street, Depot Street, and Rivers Street will be closed to vehicular traffic, but open to Human Powered Fun! Enjoy biking, skateboarding, walking, running, dancing, Adult Tricycle Races, Safe Kids Bike Rally, BMX Show and many more fun activities! So decorate your bike, bring your family, and experience the 6th Annual Boone Cyclo.Via!
