High Country Weekend Family Events June 17 – 19, 2016

It is going to be absolutely beautiful in the High Country this weekend with lots of sunshine and temperatures in the 70s. We have a great list of family events for your enjoyment. Check out all the events and plan your weekend of fun. We wish you all a wonderful weekend!

June 17:

3. Family Pool Time: Robbin’s Pool at Broyhill Park in Blowing Rock – Public Swim Times: 11:00am-5:00pm and 6:00pm-8:30pm

4. Beech Mountain Family Fun Month – Enjoy family activities atop Beech Mountain

5. Music in the Valle – Concerts begin at 7 p.m. from May 27 until August 12. August 19 through September 9, concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. Bring a chair or a blanket, a picnic, and lots of friends! Admission is free, but a $5 donation to the Park per person is recommended.

6. Music on the Lawn in Blowing Rock – 5:30pm: Free outdoor concerts every Friday evening, weather permitting! Enjoy classic country, blues, bluegrass, and other genres in an always-changing lineup. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket. Drinks and snacks available for purchase.

7. Bonfires at Chetola – Enjoy some outdoor fun with your friends at the new fire pit by Chetola Lake at Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock. Bonfires are scheduled for 6 p.m. every Saturday evening, weather permitting. Kids can purchase $5 s’mores kits and roast their marshmallows over the open fire. The event also features an outdoor cash bar and live music. The event is free and open to the public. June 18:

1. Watauga County Farmers Market – Join the market from 8am to noon. In addition to all the wonderful produce and products, coffee, cookies, and camaraderie, biscuits, breakfast pizza, and baked goods, seeing friends and swapping lies, the Farmers Market has lots of fun activities.  Nate Harris will be performing on Center Stage, and on side stage, the talented Marshall Daniels will be playing the handpan (looks a lot like a UFO or a wok!) and the hammered dulcimer.   Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture will be having a cooking demonstration to teach us how to convert fresh veggies into delectable delights.  Folks from High Country Recreation will provide information about recreation in the high country and also be selling athletic t-shirts.   (There will be no Kid’s Corner this week.)

  • Mountain biking lessons at Beech Mountain Resort (prices vary) – 9:30am
  • Scenic chairlift rides to top of Beech Mountain ($10) – 10:00am-4:00pm
  • Great American Backyard Cookout at Fred’s Mercantile ($8.50) – 11:00am-3:00pm
  • Disc golf at Beech Mountain Resort (free with own disc) – 10:00am-5:00pm
  • Movie Under the Stars on outdoor screen at Brick Oven Pizzeria (free) – 8:00pm

5. Family Pool Time: Robbin’s Pool at Broyhill Park in Blowing Rock – Public Swim Times: 11:00am-7:30pm

6. Make a Dinosaur Card at Michaels – They craft, you shop! Kids 3 and up can enjoy a quick project and take home a finished masterpiece. Sign up in store or online, or just drop in. $2 per child, supplies included. Parent or guardian must remain on premises during the event.

7. Evening Outdoor Concert in Downtown Todd – The Todd Community Preservation Organization hosts the Todd Summer Concert Series. This Saturday will feature, Strictly Strings.  All concerts are free and held from 6-8:00 pm in Cook Park in downtown Todd – rain or shine (they have tents!). Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Food and beverages will be available for sale.

  • Sunset Concert on lawn at Beech Alpen Inn: Band TBA (free) – 5:00pm

4. Family Pool Time: Robbin’s Pool at Broyhill Park in Blowing Rock – Public Swim Times: 12:00am-7:30pm

5. Mountain Music Jam – Celebrate Southern Appalachian music with local musicians as they play traditional, Old Time and Bluegrass. All musicians are welcome, so bring your instrument and join in, or enjoy the view and entertainment. Participants will meet at the Outdoor Amphitheater on Sunday, June 19 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. All programs are free and open to the public.
