High Country Weekend Family Events November 4-6, 2016

The High Country will be experiencing a beautiful fall weekend. There will be lots of sunshine and temperatures in the low 60s. Check out all the events and plan your weekend of family fun!

November 4:

1. Family Movies {Now Playing}

  • Kubo and the Two Strings at App State’s SuperCinema – 7:00pm and 9:30pm ($1 per ticket if purchased in advanced or $2 at the door)
  • Trolls at Regal Boone Cinema 

2. Bonfires at Chetola – Enjoy some outdoor fun with your friends at the new fire pit by Chetola Lake at Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock. Bonfires are scheduled for 6 p.m. every Friday evening, weather permitting. Kids can purchase $5 s’mores kits and roast their marshmallows over the open fire. The event also features an outdoor cash bar and live music. The event is free and open to the public. November 5:

1. Wee-Cycle Children’s Consignment Winter Sale –  8:00am- 6:00pm: Tens-of-Thousands of high quality items.

2. Watauga County Farmers Market – Join the market from 8am to noon. Join in the market fun every Saturday morning through November. In addition to the areas best selection of local produce, foods, and crafts, we also have live music, cooking demos, children’s activities, and the unbeatable community atmosphere that has made us “Boone’s Town Square Since 1974!”

4. Michaels Craft Store – Hot Coco Mug – 10:00am-12:00pm: They craft; you shop! Kids 3 and up can enjoy a hot coco mug project designed by Sprout. Sign up online, in-store or just drop in. $2 per project, supplies included. Parent or guardian must remain on premises during the event.

5. Girl Scouts host ’60s party open house
– Girl Scouts of the High Country welcomes all girls in the fourth to 12th grades to a ‘60s party to learn about the opportunities that Girl Scouting affords.

This event will be held from 1-3 p.m. Nov. 5 at St. Elizabeth of the Hill Country. During this event, girls will tie-dye shirts, paint a rock and weave God’s eyes. 6. Appalachian State Game (Family Weekend) 
– Mountaineers vs. Texas State: Kick-off at 3:30pm

7. Turkeys and Ravens at Elk Knob State Park – 2:00pm Come see a presentation about these fascinating birds and their interesting quirks.  Meet at the park office.

November 6:

2. Camping Etiquette at Grandfather Mountain State Park – 11:00am-12:30pm: Camping is a fun way to spend time with friends, family, or on your own. Join Ranger Sicard to learn a few things that will help making any camping experience a fun and safe one. During this program participants will learn how to set up the site if it is not already established for you, how to keep food stored, and how to dress properly to stay cool or warm. There will be hands on portions for those who would like to get involved. All participants will be given a checklist for future camping to determine if they are using the proper camping etiquette. The knowledge learned can be used to pass on to others so that our natural resources can be enjoyed but not over used. This program will last approximately one hour and is open to all ages.
