It’s Time for Fall Sports Registration!

Fall is just around the corner and that means it is time to complete your child’s registration for their favorite Fall Sport. Blowing Rock, Watauga Recreation, and Mount Vernon Equip Ministry are all accepting registrations.

Blowing Rock is the only Recreation facility offering Kinder programs for children ages 3-5, in Watauga County. Currently two full sessions are offered each season, with a waiting list of children wanting to participate. To register your child for soccer, contact 828-295-5222.

Watauga County Parks and Recreation offers youth soccer to children ages 5 – 15 (age determined as of August 31, 2015). Six levels of play are offered based on age: U-6, U-8, U-10, U-12, U-15. Whenever possible, teams are formed by geographical location (except for U-15). Separate boys and girls leagues are created when sufficient numbers exist in any age group. If numbers do not allow for separate leagues, the leagues will be co-ed. Teams meet an average of 3 times per week, including 2 games each week. All participants are required to wear shin guards and team colored soccer socks. The recreation department will provide each child with a team jersey which is his/hers to keep at the end of the season. Soccer cleats are not required but are highly recommended. The registration fee is $33 per participant and must be submitted with the registration application. All participants must be registered with Watauga County Parks and Recreation no later then 5:00 pm on Friday, August 14, 2015.

Mighty Mountaineer Youth Football is offered to 3rd & 4th grade and 5th & 6th grade students in Watauga County. Two divisions are offered based on school grade. Mountaineer Youth Football is full contact football with fundamentals and proper techniques emphasized to help insure a safe playing environment. The Parks and Recreation department provides shoulder pads, helmet and a reversible Appalachian State University game jersey to each player for the season. Participants keep their game jersey at the end of the season. Each participant must provide his/her own practice jersey, shoes, socks, football pants, pants pads, and mouthpiece. The program runs for approximately 8 – 10 weeks. Teams meet an average of 4 times each week for games and/or practices. Games start as scrimmages at the beginning of the season and progress to full-contact regulation games. Teams may play teams from surrounding counties, so some travel may be required. Games will be played at ASU Football Stadium and the new WHS turf football field. The registration fee is $65 per player. All participants must be registered with Watauga County Parks and Recreation by 5:00pm on Friday, August 7, 2015.

Equip Sports Ministry Football is a full contact clinic style league. All players must have a physical to participate.
