July 18-20, 2014 Family Events in the High Country

Let’s see what is happening this weekend in the High Country for families! Rain is in the forecast for the weekend. It may be a great time to watch a movie.

July 18:

1. Regal Cinemas in Boone – Now showing: Planes: Fire & Rescue, Transformers: Age of Extinction, and How to Train Your Dragon 2

2. Free Friday Concerts on the Lawn at the Jones House – Starting at 5:00pm: Andy Ferrell & Oncoming Train and Carolina Crossing

3. The “Music in the Valle” concert series at Valle Crucis Community Park – Admission is free, but a $5 donation per person is recommended to the privately funded, 501(c)3 nonprofit park. Bring a chair or a blanket and a picnic, as food is not usually available for sale. The Worthless Son-in-Laws will be performing.

4. “Horn in the West” Outdoor Drama – Loved by all ages, “Horn in the West” is performed in the heart of Boone, NC, in Daniel Boone Amphitheatre, one of the most beautiful outdoor theatres in the country. This spectacular outdoor drama tells the story of the earliest of American adventures. “Horn in the West” offers families memorable summer evening entertainment in the High Country of NC.

July 19:

1. K-9’s in Flight Frisbee DogsTweetsie Railroad will also be hosting a favorite annual event once again this year when K-9s In Flight Frisbee® Dogs, a group of incredibly talented rescue dogs, soar into the park on July 19-27. These gravity-defying canines will entertain park guests for nine days, with three daily performances at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

 2. Banner Elk Heritage DayThe day will begin at 9am with a free bus tour of historic Banner Elk, sponsored by Lees-McRae College. Tours of the Banner House Museum will run from 9am-1pm. Also traditional music, craft displays, and demonstrations are planned at the Banner House Museum from 9am to 1pm.

3. Watauga County Library – 2:oo pm: The King Bees Duo Blues and History

5. Honey Bear Campground Family Movie Night – Come join the fun with an outdoor movie night of The Croods! Only $5 for parking. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets!

3. Concert in the Park (Memorial Park in Blowing Rock)Bring a chair or a blanket and enjoy this free concert by the King Bees! Blues music at its finest! The American Legion Hall is the backup venue in case of inclement weather.
