July Weekend Events: Fabulous Frolicking Family Fun 07/16-18

This weekend’s events are a little late with All-Star Baseball going on, but never-the-less here we are and ready for some fun! Start your weekend off with your kid’s favorite cartoon characters, then get in a little bling bling shopping and show off Fido. Bring out your inner outdoors camping enthusiast all the while entertaining the family with some down home bluegrass and tunes, then set sail for adventure on the High Seas. Whew! All of this action and activity makes for some fabulous frolicking family fun and excitement!

Tweetsie Railroad hosts Nickelodeon’s Dora the Explorer and Diego Friday through Sunday, July 16th – 18th. Come spend the day and meet Dora and her cousin Diego . Get your Bling Bling on with the 16th Annual High CountryBead, Gem, Mineral and Jewelry Show this Friday to Sunday, July 16th-18th from 10 am – 6 pm Fri. & Sat. and 11 am – 5 pm on Sun. at the Boone National Guard Armory on Hunting Hills Lane. Show off Fido in Beech Mountain’s 4th annual Dog Show Sat., July 17th, at the Buckeye Recreation Center. Registration starts at 8 am and all dogs are welcome with pure breed and mixed breed divisions. Every dog will receive a ribbon. Get into some good ole downhome Bluegrass and tunes with The High Country Music Fest returning again to the Boone Fairgrounds, located at 748 Roby Greene Road, Sat., July 17th, from 12 – 10 p.m. In it’s 4th year the festival, formally known as The High Country Bluegrass Festival, has taken on a new name to broaden the range of music. Featured bands are Diana and Sarvis Ridge, Beatles cover band The Fab Beat, Balsam Range, The Harris Brothers, Darin and Brooke Aldridge and All Star Jam with Terry Baucom/“Big Al” Johnson and Friends. Workshops for Guitar, Banjo and Fiddle will be held throughout the day, also Craft and Food vendors. Bring out your inner outdoors camping enthusiast with camping available Fri. & Sat. nights. Campsite costs are $20 with an electric hook-up and $10 for a primitive site. Tickets cost $20 in advance and $25 at the gate, and children under age 12 enter free with a paying adult. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Fine Musical Instruments in Statesville, Bluemoon Guitars and Music in Jefferson, Appalachian Music Shoppe in Boone, Old Hampton Store in Linville, or this Saturday at the festival gate. “Ahoy Matey”, Come set sail for a “High Seas Expedition” VBS, hosted by Trinity Baptist Church in Deep Gap on Old Hwy. 421. Kick-off and Registration is this Sunday, July 18th from 2 – 4 pm. Come for Fun, Food & Fellowship…and Water Games! VBS runs through out the week of July 19th to 23rd from 6 – 8:30 pm.  There’s something for all ages.
