June Weekend Events: Fun in the Sun Days 06/25-27

Summer is here full blast and we have been feeling it too! And, we’re just getting started. Even so, Summertime just breathes the word FUN! Swimming, Baseball, Fireworks, Lemonade, Picnics, Catching FireFlies…these are some of the events we are participating in. What are some activities you and your family are taking in during the summer months? This weekend, there are some great happenings going on in the High Country. From shopping for great bargains and learning ways to  protect our kids better, to enriching our lives with musicals, history, and culture, there is no better way to spend quality time with your family having Fun in the Sun!

This Weekend is the Watauga Humane Society Rummage Sale, Fri. &  Sat., June 25th-26th, at the National Guard Armory. Filled and overflowing with clothing, furniture, electronics, books, decorative items, jewelry and more, you’re sure to find great bargains from 8 am – 4 pm. Raffle tickets will also be sold for 2 prizes: a Handcrafted Queen/King Size Quilt and Sunday brunch for two at The Broyhill Inn. Tickets for either prize $1 each, or 6 for $5 and can be purchased in advance at the Humane Society shelter at 200 Casey Lane, or at Bare Bones Boutique thrift store at 153 Don Hayes Road. At the sale, tickets will be sold up until the time of the drawing. For those that get hungry while shopping, indulge at the Hot Diggity Dog stand set up on the lawn outside the armory serving Hot dogs, Veggie dogs, Bean and Cheese burritos, freshly squeezed Orangeade, Lemonade and Limeade will also be on hand to quench your thirst, sharing profits from sales with the Watauga Humane Society.

Is your child part of the Ident-A-Kid program? Come participate as the  Watauga Sheriff’s Department provides an Ident-A-Kid program at the Charleston Forge Warehouse sale this Fri., June 25th, from 2 – 5 pm & Sat., June 26th, from 10 am – 2 pm. Officers will process laminated ID cards with a child’s picture, name, address, fingerprint, date of birth and physical description. The card can be provided to law enforcement as a quick reference to locate a missing child. For more information on the program go to www.ident-a-kid.com/.

Take in a Musical this weekend with’‘Robinson Crusoe” presented by The Watauga Arts Council Summer Arts Camp at the Blowing Rock School auditorium this Fri., June 25th, at 7 pm, and Sat., June 26th, at 2 pm. From Hula dancing Chameleons and many other original characters, join the Missoula Children’s Theatre and more than 50 local students as they present this musical adaptation.  Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under and are available at the door. Here we go with the 22nd annual Trade Days Festival held June 25th – 27th at 228 Modock Road, Trade, Tenn., just over the state line off US 421. All day Shows, Exhibits and Demonstrations, even a Native American Pow-Wow and dance competition, as well as, live entertainment on the outdoor stage daily, this is definite “Fun in the Sun“. Ticket prices are $8 – adults; $5 – kids 6-12; 5 & under free. Senior Citizens Day is Friday, with a $5 admission, and 3 – day passes  are $20 for adults & $10 for kids.
