June Weekend Events: Joyful Celebrations and Happy Father’s Day! 06/18-20

June is full of exciting  events and activities going on. Just getting outside and taking in the sights and smells of summer is exciting all in itself, but what type of fun things are you and your family doing? Share some of your ideas and give us all some inspiration! We certainly can’t forget Father’s Day…so Happy Father’s Day to all of you Dad’s out there! Show how much you love and care about the men in your lives and make time for Fun, Family-Filled Joyful Celebrations!


Come One, Come All, and Celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Blue Ridge Parkway and play Birthday Bingo with a parkway ranger, Friday, June 18th at the Julian Price Park Amphitheater at milepost 297 at 7:30 pm. Free family fun. For more info email Reama_Pearson@nps.gov.

Horn in the West, Boone’s own outdoor drama, opens for its 59th consecutive season this Friday, June 18th! The show takes place Tues. –  Sat. through Aug. 14th at 8 pm each night. Tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for kids. Opening weekend special: Watauga County residents can purchase tickets for $6, and an All-you-can-eat Dinner catered by the Dan’l Boone Inn is offered at 6:30 pm on Thurs., Fri. & Sat. evenings by reservation only. The Valle Sqworm Festival, a “1 day family-friendly fun festival” is this Sat., June 19th, from 11 am – 11 pm at Valle Crucis Campground,  across the street from the Mast General Store Annex and Valle Crucis Community Park. The festival features live music with the Plum Branch Pickers, Lost Ridge Band, Atley Moon and Native Sway, assorted workshops and many other activities, with a portion of the festival’s proceeds donated to Valle Crucis Community Park. It’s the 2nd Annual Will Dicus Memorial Baseball Tournament, June 19th – 20th, Saturday and Sunday with 30 teams in 5 age divisions competing (including my own son WooHoo! Go Watauga Americans!). This year also includes Girls Softball. Games will be held at Optimist,  Industrial, and Complex Fields,  Watauga High School, and ASU’s Jim and Bettie Smith’s Stadium. This memorial tournament celebrates the life of a tremendous young baseball player whose life was cut short at the age of 18 this past year. All proceeds go towards the building of an indoor baseball facility at the new Watauga High School. Come out and cheer on your favorite team with a daily fee of $5 or $8 for the weekend, and kids 12 and under get in free! Concessions will be available.   1. Please join us at the old watauga high school for a special event, Relay For Life, this Friday evening 6/18 to help find the cure for cancer! Opening ceremonies begin at 7pm, so C’mon!!
