On Friday…

One of the High Country’s standards, see Horn in the West as it opens Friday, June 17th for it’s 60th year. A Revolutionary War drama you won’t want to miss, held at the Daniel Boone Amphitheatre with shows every day except Mondays through Saturday, August 13th. The 1st 3 days of the Opening shows will only be $6 for Watauga County residents after that tickets are  $18 for adults and $9 per child. Gates open at 7:30 pm, and the show starts at 8 pm. Take in a show as the Ensemble Stage performs “Catfish Moon” this Friday, June 17th through July 3rd at the Blowing Rock School Auditorium. Tickets are $16 for adults, $13 for students, seniors, or military. For more info call 828-414-1844.

A highlight of the summer, find any and every thing you want or need at the Watauga Humane Society Rummage Sale this Friday and Saturday, June 17th & 18th, at the National Guard Armory. Times are 8 am – 4 pm both days and open to the public. For more info call Dee at 828-264-9116.

On Saturday…

See some of nature’s beauty and get a little excercise too as you walk Blowing Rock’s MIle Of  Flowers this Saturday, June 18th. Part of experiencing a day full of gardens and flowers, a continental breakfast starts the day off followed by a box lunch, afternoon tea, a symposium and a self-guided walking tour of Blowing Rock gardens. There is also the  Mile of Flowers Boutique  featuring garden and flower themed items handcrafted by Blowing Rock Garden Club members. In the mood for a great concert? How about the Depue Brothers Band in concert kicking off the 2011 season at the Hayes Performing Arts Center in Blowing Rock. The first show is Saturday, June 18th, at 7:30 pm, followed by a show at 2 pm on Sunday, June 19th. Tickets prices are $25, $30 and $40 and vary depending on seat location. Experience some adventure watching the Appalachian Roller Girls as they bring the action and keep you on your toes racing against the Blue Ridge Roller girls “French Broads” this Saturday, June 18th at the Holmes Convocation Center in Boone. Doors open at 3:30 pm with the show starting at 4 pm, and tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door, with kids 10 and under are admitted free. Show your community support and love at the Charity Classic Car Show at the Blowing Rock Elementary School and ball field this Saturday, June 18th for more than fast cars and food! It’s a Fundraiser and Celebration for a special little guy, Moses, a pre-kindergarten student battling Rhabdomyosarcoma, which is a malignant, aggressive cancer of the soft tissues. This free event is sponsored by “Motors for Moses” and is a collaboration between Blowing Rock Police and High Country Classics to raise money for Blowing Rock C.A.R.E.S. for Moses’s treatment and for research about the disease. On Saturday and Sunday…

You won’t want to miss the 65th annual Roan Mountain Rhododendron Festival this Saturday and Sunday, June 18th -19th from 10 am – 5 pm at Roan Mountain State Park located on Highway 143 in Roan Mountain, Tenn., via U.S. 19 East. Known as the world’s largest natural Rhododendron garden, this festival has lots of family-friendly happenings and features Demonstrations, Music and Entertainment, and over 100 Arts and Crafts vendors, with a variety of food available also.
