May Weekend Events: Happy Mother’s Day! 05/06-08

Happy Mother’s Day!!! I salute all of the Moms out there whether by natural means, adoption, or marriage, we all are better people due to the influences of moms! Make sure to let your Mom know how precious she is to you and how much she means to you!

On Friday…

Bring back the Fairy Tale experience with the Spring classic “Princess Gala” presented by Studio K dance studio this Friday and Saturday, May 7th – 8th at ASU’s Farthing Auditorium. Featuring the talents of more than 100 local dancers, and some of the best loved Fairy Tale Princesses, such as Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty, who will dance to beautiful classical music. Studio K is best known for its magnificent annual production of the holiday ballet, “The Nutcracker”. Friday’s show starts at 8 pm, and Saturday’s show is at 7 pm, and tickets are $11 for adults and $8 for students.

On Saturday…

Start the day off right with Pancakes in the Park this Saturday, May 7th, beginning bright and early at 7 am – 11 am held at the Watauga County Farmers Market (Horn in the West). Mountain Alliance is hosting the event and is starting the Farmer’s Market season off right by serving Pancakes, local Eggs and Sausage to help support local youth. Nurture Mom’s green thumb at the Shawneehaw Volunteer Fire Department’s Plant Sale this Saturday, May 7th, from 8 am – 4 pm. Find just the right plant that you’ve been looking for located at the Shawneehaw Volunteer Fire Department in Banner Elk, between Valle Crucis and Banner Elk. This community happening is sponsored by the Shawneehaw Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Bring the kids out to this awesome Free 1-day Acting Workshop for Kids & Teens, (see Sarah’s previous post) this Saturday, May 7th from 10 am – 6 pm, held at Crosspoint Community Church. David Chernault, a renowned Broadway and Disney performer, will teach a Free acting workshop to kids from Kindergarten to High School.  Grades K-2 will learn the song “Tomorrow” (from Annie) and play theater games, while grades 3-5 get to work on the song “Sweet Caroline” (from Glee) and discover acting through pantomime. For the Middle and High Schoolers, they will learn audition techniques and cold reading skills.
