What is happening this weekend in the High Country for families? The cold air has definitely arrived. Appalachian Ski Mountain and Sugar Mountain are opened for the season. Happy skiing! We wish you all a wonderful fun-filled family weekend!

November 21:

1. Christmas at Apple Hill Farm – Join in as the farm celebrates the Christmas season with mini tours of the farm, pony rides on Saturday afternoons and complimentary homemade hot chocolate, hot apple cider and Christmas cookies. The store is fully stocked with your favorite alpaca yarns and accessories as well as table top Frasier fir trees, hand tied wreaths, and white pine garland.

Tours offered all day on weekends from 10am to 5pm. Tours are $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 4 – 10. Children 3 and under are free! We’ll also be offering pony rides for children on Saturdays for $10

2. Blazing Easels Kids Workshop at ASU Turchin Center – Each Friday students will learn a new art skill! These one-month sessions focus on three different cultures. Students will complete projects that are relevant to the themed culture for that session. All supplies included.

3. Children’s Playhouse Parent’s Night Out – Kids have a blast with wonderful ASU volunteers while parents enjoy a night out. Cost for nonmembers is $15 for the first child, $8 per additional sibling; members pay $12 and $6. The 2014-2015 Parent’s Night Out at The Children’s Playhouse are 5:30-8:30 pm on November 21st, January 30th, February 20th, March 20th, and April 24th. Call 828-263-0011 to sign up.

November 22:

1. Watauga County Farmers’ Market – Join us for the 40th anniversary season of Watauga County Farmers’ Market! The farmers’ market has been Boone’s Town Square since 1974. Opens at 8:00am in the Horn in the West parking lot.day and it’s FREE. Explore this web site to learn more about the Brushy Mountain Apple Festival!

4. DIY Felt Stocking at Michael’s: 10am – 12pm Drop in. Take home a completed project. Just $2 per child for 30 minutes of creative craft fun. Ages 3 and up.

3. “Beech Tree Trail Stroll at Elk Knob Park – Stroll along a one mile nature trail with a ranger. Learn about animal behavior in winter and discuss other fascinating nature topics. Meet at the trailhead parking lot Sunday, November 23rd at 2 pm.
