November 7 – 9 High Country Family Weekend Events

What is happening this weekend in the High Country for families? The weather will be much warmer than last weekend. Get out and enjoy the the nice Fall weather while it lasts! Saturday kicks off the Wee-Cycle Children’s Consignment Winter Sale. We wish you all a wonderful fun-filled family weekend!

November 7:

1. The Children’s Playhouse 12th Birthday Bash – 10-3 pm Kiwanis Club of Boone Free Play Day (Free admission)

10:30: Fun with Ramps and Balls with Students from the Appalachan State University AGE Labs.

3:30: Sand Art

2. Blazing Easels Kids Workshop at ASU Turchin Center – Each Friday students will learn a new art skill! These one-month sessions focus on three different cultures. Students will complete projects that are relevant to the themed culture for that session. All supplies included.

November 8:

1. Watauga County Farmers’ Market – Join us for the 40th anniversary season of Watauga County Farmers’ Market! The farmers’ market has been Boone’s Town Square since 1974. Opens at 8:00am in the Horn in the West parking lot.day and it’s FREE. Explore this web site to learn more about the Brushy Mountain Apple Festival!

2. Wee-Cycle Children’s Winter Consignment Sale – Grand opening!

Times:  8am – 6pm

Location:  200 Den Mac Drive, Boone, NC- At the corner of Bamboo Rd and Brook Hollow Rd.

3. The Children’s Playhouse 12th Birthday Bash – OpSmiles (Orthodontists and Pediatric Dentists Drs. Mayhew, Scheffler, Hardaway and Conn) Free Play Day (Free admission)

11:00-11:45 Music with Mr. Tommy

Come enjoy original and traditional high energy kids music with Mr. Tommy Smith. Be prepared to giggle, sing, play instruments, and move to the music! Fun for all ages. Free admission as part of the Playhouse Birthday Bash celebrating our 12th Birthday!

Noon-2 pm: Earth Fare Pizza and Stick Boy Birthday cake (while supplies last)

4. Family Movie Showings:

5. Lowe’s Build and Grow – 10:00am at Lowe’s Home Improvement in Boone, Banner Elk and West Jefferson. Science Lab: Your kid will love this kit! Each kit comes with experiment cards so they can continue the fun at home!

6. Make a Happy Snowman Ornament at Michael’s: 10am – 12pm Drop in. Take home a completed project. Just $2 per child for 30 minutes of creative craft fun. Ages 3 and up.

8. The Grace Academy 6th Annual Chili Cook-Off and Auction: 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm at Watauga High School. This is a highly anticipated event in the High Country. Tickets are $6.00 per person ($30.00 max per family) in advance and $8.00 per person ($30.00 max per family) at the door. There will be a silent auction, live auction, children’s raffle, and lots of family fun! Please join us for this event. November 9:

2. Wee-Cycle Children’s Winter Consignment Sale – Grand opening!

3. “Geology Hike” – Elk Knob State Park  – Join a geologist as we wander around Elk Knob and learn about the fascinating rocks that make up the mountain. What makes Elk Knob different from most of the Southern Appalachians and how does that affect the plants that grow here. Join us at thw Summit Trailhead at 2 pm to find out. Wear sturdy shoes for hiking and dress in layers for warmth.
